SIZ EDUCATION - COMPUTER AND INFORMATION SYSTEM TECHNOLOGY
There are various kinds of computer and information system technology. These include microprocessor, software, internet, computer network. These have been the basis of information technology in this century. In
addition to these technologies there has been a development of new technologies such as "CIM" i.e Computer Integrated Manufacturing which is being used in the manufacturing industry.
For centuries man has striven to build machines that can help him in his work. Since the industrial revolution he society and culture. Today we are witnessing a new type of technology-the information technology which is having an enormous effect on our life, for example, simple word process which alot of work done by clerks.
The first digital computers were developed in the 1940s and 1950s. The first "computer" was built by Charles Babbage around 1833 but his machines were not programmable. It is possible to consider that there are three generations of computers. First generation computers used vacuum tubes, and were huge and very slow. The second generation used transistors and integrated circuits and were smaller and faster than first generation machines. Today we are at the third generation of computers which use miniaturization of components such as chips, etc.
Computer technology is now advancing so rapidly that it is difficult to anticipate what will happen in the future. One thing is clear there will be no letup in this rapid progress.
The computer industry today has become almost entirely dependent on the "computer chip" or the microprocessor which has drastically reduced costs, even for very powerful computers. Without it, it would have been impossible to build a PC that would cost less than $1000 and have the same power as a workstation that used to cost many thousands of dollars.
Microprocessor has also eliminated other kinds technology, such as the dial-up modems which are now built into today's personal computers. Another example is that magnetic strip cards containing information about your credit accounts will soon be replaced by smart cards containing microprocessor chips. Satellite communications will make the telephone system redundant.
Computer technology is now advancing so rapidly that it is difficult to anticipate what will happen in the future. One thing is clear there will be no letup in this rapid progress.
