It has been the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend here in the US, but that also means we have had our own "Thanksgiving Caturday" today... because Saturday is Caturday!

Smudge is here!

My new housemate — and new cat in our household — "Smudge" has arrived and is getting used to her new surroundings.

We are taking the "integration" into the household very slowly and gently, because Smudge is a senior citizen kitty at age 14, and she's rather set in her ways and what she is used to.

The first couple of days here she was very skittish and shy, and spent most of her time in her safe "nest" under one of our large armchairs.

We were a little worried, but she'd come out to eat and drink, and she was using her litterbox.

It has been a few more days now, and she comes out and openly explores her new surroundings.

We have been "nose to nose" a couple of times — with Hooman supervision, of course — and it was quite peaceful. Hopefully, we will soon all be great friends!

These sorts of things take patience and time, of course... and for the moment, she will continue to have her own space in our quite large living room, where she can watch and sniff everything else through our "kitty gate."

She has actually been out through the gate a couple of times — entirely on her own accord — and we expect she'll be comfortable with the whole house within a couple of weeks.

Fortunately, she was used to another cat and a dog with her previous Hooman-Mom, so that part of the equation shouldn't be too hard.

Meanwhile, I just watch most of the proceedings from a safe distance. But it is pretty exciting to have another cat in the house! Expect her to become a regular part of the Curator Cat blog!
