Well, that's what you get when you follow a sacred book based on superstitions and ignorance.
The bible, if followed to the letter would force Christians to do the same. The fact that they don't suggest that some adjustments had to be made, some credit was given to science and knowledge. This implicit acknowledgement of faulty foundations should be enough to make people double think their affiliations.
In some respects ignorance may be bliss, but when it comes to dogmas ignorance is slavery.
