Traditional Mauritian Bread Fritters : Takes only 5 minutes to make these cheap and yummy snacks!

Yesterday we were in a mood for some Bread Fritters known as Du Pain Frire here in Mauritius!

This is one of the 'snacks' that marked my childhood...I still remember eating a lot of these delicious slices of bread fried with a chickpeas batter when coming back home from school!

My mother has a great recipe of these bread fritters and we did some!

Very easy recipe indeed!

You will only need these basics ingredients to make some delicious bread fritters...

  • Chickpeas Flour 3/4 Normal Flour 1/4
  • Fresh Mint / Coriander / Green Chili sliced
  • Salt / Pepper / Water
  • Stale Bread cut in slices
  • Oil to Fry

I simply made a semi thick batter with the chickpeas & normal flour and added in the fresh herbs and chili.

You can add a small spoon of Bicarbonate in the batter for an even better texture when frying and a drop of turmeric to add some more yellowish color to the batter!

Slice the bread...dip in the batter and fry!

The easiest recipe in the world...and so delicious!

I made sure that each slice of bread was well coated and placed them in hot frying oil!

Let cook on both side until a nice color and crispy!

Made a plate full of bread fritters in 5 minutes!

I took that opportunity to teach my daughter this recipe and told her...this is a recipe which works perfectly on a lazy & rainy day!!!

Sharing traditional recipe and cultures of my country is a very important thing to do for me and hope you do same with your kids in your place!

Teach them maximum good things while they are still young!
