Club 100 Contest Monuments And Sculptures Of My City #46 - Twin Metal Towers

There is a theme park here in our place in Davao City, Philippines. It is called People's Park. It is located at the heart of the city and therefore very accessible to everyone. The Park previously was a sports complex occupying a total area of almost 5 hectares. There was an oval for running, an olympic size swimming pool, a soccer field, a basketball court and 2 tennis courts. However, the maintenance of the place became very expensive and the government took over the area. It was renovated and made into a theme park and is now one of the tourist attractions in the city.

I will not talk about the park but instead about two metal structures that stand right at the entrance of the complex. They are identical and were made and sculpted by Davao's own world famous artist, Kublai Khan. All the artworks in the park were done by Kublai and perhaps, in the next rounds of this contest, I will show all the magnificent cement statues that he did. But back to the twin metal towers. Here they are.

The sculpted images depict the various aspects of the life in Davao City. Davao is famous for the Durian fruit. It is a round fruit covered with spikes. It is a most delicious fruit but has a very offensive odor. Davao is located in the island of Mindanao, which is mostly agricultural land, and also has bountiful fruits.

The island of Mindanao is also home to diverse cultural minorities and their means of livelihood which is also carved out by the artist.

This is the entrance to the Park.
