Lessons I Learned Before I Started My Business

in Project HOPElast month

Unless you want to start a kiosk business, you need to understand that business is not a joke. Starting a business with no cash is very difficult but starting one for an entrepreneur is everything they want at the time but when you want to start a business, there are a few questions you should ask yourself.

When I wanted to start my spice business, I remember asking myself a few questions because I knew I was going into a business that was going to be stressful and time consuming but because I didn't want to stop along the way, those questions were important to be answered. The first question I asked myself was if I could still look at this business in the next 10 years and be proud I am doing it, or will the business still be in the market 10 years from when I started it?

A lot of people want to do a business that is interesting and timely. One that follows the wave of the current event at hand. For instance, during the Covid-19 pandemic, a lot of people started producing nose mask locally for people in my country, and they made a lot of sales doing this. In fact there was a person who rented out an entire building for that purpose and she made a whole lot of sale selling them but the business was a timely one because the pandemic wasn't going to last forever and people weren't going to be putting on a boring nose mask all around when there isn't an airborne pandemic.

If she had decided to make it more attractive as such building a designer brand around it and selling it as a fashion culture, there is a high possibility that she would succeed with the nose mask after the pandemic and then start to do other fabricated wears around the brand. If she had done that, then there is a possibility that the business could outlive her and there was always going to be a place for innovation compared to what she actually did.

Also, when you are starting a business, you should not expect that it is going to be simple. If you are not going to be doing it for the longest of time without being wary or tired about keeping it going then do not bother getting into it. Whatever idea you think of, the first question you should ask is can you commit to it for the next ten years.

When you are going to start a business, then you need to learn a lot of things but at this point, you do not have enough time to learn all these things and so you are left with getting help from people and businesses that are ahead of you one or two steps. When you are about to start a business, you need to try to interview about 3 to 10 people or businesses that have done this before you and are still in the business. This is so you can grow better and understand the terrain you are getting into.

I didn't mention 1 or 2 because there is a high chance that people and business might want to hide a few things as this is what keeps them in the business but when you are asking 3 to 10 people, you will be surely talking to a customer who will be willing to spill their competitors secret while keeping theirs but as you keep asking, you will realize that you will get most hidden truth from them all.

You need to understand a pattern from these people, learn the end game, understand the path that the people went through and figure out the next stage in the business. In doing this, you will understand what to do next when it comes to your team, your strategy and milestone setting.
