League of Movies (Second Edition | Week 03): "We Were Soldiers"

I bring you another review, because I'm participating in the league created by our friend @wiseagent. Well, for this edition of number 3, the rule is basically to do a review on "Follow the Leader" and I confess that when I read about it, I didn't get another movie that fit perfectly with the requirements of @wiseagent. The chosen one for this post is We Were Soldiers, starring Mel Gibson that we agree, need not say anything more about this brilliant actor / director / producer / screenwriter.
Speaking of Mel Gibson, I remember that my first film that my father recorded for me on a cassette was Braveheart (1995), as it was very late at that time, the child slept early lol ... and wow ... what a film great ... Well, let's get back to focus ;)
I've always been a fan of war movies since I was a kid, I grew up watching great films released in the 90s and 2000s. And without a doubt We Were Soldiers is in my top 5 best films of the genre. In addition to being set in a recent war scenario (Vietnam), the feature tells the true story of Lieutenant Colonel Hal Moore, played by Gibson. An American veteran who had previously fought WW II and the Korean War and who now had to command the 1st Battalion of the 7th Cavalry Regiment in the Vietnam War.
The film also portrays the beginning of the participation of the United States in the war and with several scenes of action, we can notice actions of heroism and leadership. Attitudes like these inspired Cel. Moore and war journalist Joseph L. Galloway wrote a book entitled "We Were Soldiers Once ... and Young: Ia Drang - The Battle That Changed the War in Vietnam".
How not to remember the historic speech he had given before going to the battlefield. A leader always knows how to use words to his advantage and that inspires anyone. One of the best moments that shows how exemplary was the LTG. Moore. I will leave a bit of the excerpt from your speech "We will return home together":
"... We are going to the Valley of the Shadow of Death, where you will take care of the man next to you as he will take care of you and will not worry about his color or the name he gives to God. Are we leaving our homes? We go to the house that we should always have. So let's understand the situation, let's go to fight a tough and determined enemy.
I cannot promise that I will bring everyone home alive, but one thing I swear, before you and before Almighty God that when we go into combat, I will be the first to set foot in the field and be the last to leave. . I won't leave anyone behind. Dead or alive, we will go home together and may God help me. "
It would not be easy, as the 7th Cavalry Regiment had a difficult road ahead and participated in the conflict that was called Batalha de la Drang. Where there were about 400 American soldiers versus 2,000 Vietnamese soldiers who still had Viet Congs warriors to support them.
Keeping the spirits and concentration in front of an enemy prepared in his field was not an easy task for Col Moore, but that in the midst of the advances he was able to inspire his men so that any human limitation could be overcome. A beautiful example of the leadership he left us.
Unfortunately, for everyone one day we will come to an end, Col Hal Moore passed away in 2017 about to turn 95 years old. He left a legacy of heroism and inspiration for thousands of people just like me. His attitudes are praised to this day and works like this beautiful film make Morre a legend that still lives. Here is my tribute and I thank everyone who read this far.

Bem, para esta edição de número 3, a regra basicamente é para fazer um review sobre "Follow the Leader" e confesso que quando li sobre, não me veio outro filme que se encaixava perfeitamente com as exigências do @wiseagent. O escolhido para este post é We Were Soldiers, estrelado por Mel Gibson que convenhamos, não precisa dizer mais nada sobre esse ator/diretor/produtor/roteirista brilhante.
Por falar em Mel Gibson, lembro que meu primeiro filme que meu pai gravou para mim numa fita cassete foi Braveheart (1995), como era bem tarde da noite naquela época criança dormia cedo hahaha... e nossa... que filme genial... Bem, vamos voltar ao foco ;)
Eu sempre fui fanático por filmes de guerra desde criança, cresci vendo ótimos filmes lançados nos anos 90 e 2000. E sem dúvida alguma o We Were Soldiers está no meu top 5 de melhores filmes do gênero. Além de ter se passado em um cenário de guerra recente (Vietnã), o longa conta a história real do Tenente Coronel Hal Moore, interpretado pelo Gibson. Um veterano norte americano que já havia combatido a WW II e a Guerra da Coreia e que agora teria que comandar o 1º Batalhão do 7º Regimento de Cavalaria na Guerra do Vietnã.
O filme retrata também o início da participação dos Estados Unidos na guerra e com várias cenas de ação, podemos notar ações de heroísmo e liderança. Atitudes como essas inspiraram o Cel. Moore e o jornalista de guerra Joseph L. Galloway terem escrito um livro intitulado "We Were Soldiers Once... and Young: Ia Drang - The Battle That Changed the War in Vietnam".
Líder
Como não lembrar do histórico discurso que ele havia dado antes de ir para o campo de batalha. Um líder sempre sabe usar as palavras ao seu favor e isso inspira qualquer pessoa. Um dos melhores momentos que mostra o quão exemplar era o LTG. Moore. Deixarei um pouco do trecho do seu discurso "Voltaremos juntos para a casa":
"... Estamos seguindo para o Vale da Sombra da Morte, onde vocês cuidarão do homem ao seu lado como ele cuidará de vocês e não se preocuparão da cor dele ou com o nome que ele dá a Deus. Estamos deixando nossas casas? Nós vamos para a casa que sempre devíamos ter. Então vamos entender a situação, vamos para o combate contra um inimigo duro e determinado.
Eu não posso prometer que vou trazer todos vivos para casa, mas uma coisa eu juro, diante de vocês e diante do Deus Todo Poderoso que quando formos para o combate, eu serei o primeiro a pôr os pés em campo e serei o último a sair. Não deixarei ninguém para trás. Morto ou vivo, voltaremos juntos para casa e que Deus me ajude."
A difícil luta
Não seria fácil mesmo, pois o 7º Regimento de Cavalaria teve um difícil caminho pela frente e participaram do conflito que foi chamada de Batalha de la Drang. Onde eram cerca de 400 soldados amercianos contra 2 mil soldados vietnamitas que ainda tinha guerriheiros Viet Congs para dá apoio.
Manter os ânimos e a concentração diante de um inimigo preparadíssmo em seu terreno não foi uma tarefa fácil para o Cel Moore, mas que em meio as advesidades ele conseguia inspirar seus homens faznedo com que qualquer limitação humana fosse superada. Um exemplo belo exemplo de liderança que ele nos deixou.
Infelizmente, para todos um dia chegaremos ao fim, Cel Hal Moore faleceu em 2017 prestes a completar 95 anos. Deixou um legado de heroísmo e inspiração para milhares de pessoas assim como eu. Suas atitudes são elogiadas até hoje e obras como esse belíssimo filme fazem de Moore uma lenda que ainda vive. Fica aqui minha homenagem e agradeço a todos que leram até aqui.
