What is Plagiarism? We know copying other's work or borrowing other's ideas. Words like "copying" and "borrowing" can disguise serious crimes. According to the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, "plagiarize" means: • to steal and pass off another's ideas or words as one's own • to use another's production • to present an idea or product derived from an existing source as one's own as new and original In other words, Plagiarism is an act of deception.

Types of Theft comes in many forms. Outright Plagiarism This type of blatant plagiarism occurs when an author submits someone else's work under their own name. Paying someone to do a piece of writing for you, then handing over that paper with your name on it is outright plagiarism—like stealing or "borrowing" someone else's work and passing it off as your own. For example, one of my essays is submitted by my elder sister to school under her own name.
Direct plagiarism
Direct plagiarism is similar to outright plagiarism in that it, too, presents your own opinion or writing under the name of another author. The difference between the two is how much is stolen. Outright plagiarism means, as with outright plagiarism, that the specific sections or paragraphs involved are included without crediting (or even acknowledging) the author. An example of direct plagiarism is dropping a line or two directly from your source into your work without citing the source.
Paraphrasing is plagiarism when an author reuses the work of another and changes some words or phrases. This is a common type of plagiarism, and many students don't even realize it's a form of plagiarism. If you present someone else's original idea in your writing without crediting them, even if you present it in your own words, it is plagiarism.
Self-plagiarism:
You may be surprised to know that we can plagiarize our own work. How? , our original thoughts are our own which we can use as we please. For example, let's say I wrote an essay three years ago on the advantages and disadvantages of railway travel and a research paper on how it affected other cities. Reusing texts from my dissertation would be an adventure in itself. We can use the exact same sources and if we cite them correctly, we don't have to worry about being accused of plagiarism. If we are writing professionally, confidence can be an issue. When we are commissioned to write for a client, the client owns the work. So re-using our own words for subsequent clients would be plagiarism of our own work and could damage our professional reputation.
Patchwork Plagiarism:
Also known as mosaic plagiarism or patchwork plagiarism, we refer to instances where the plagiarized work is linked to the author's original work. This type of theft can be subtle and missed, and it can happen with outright theft. An example of patchwork plagiarism is borrowing text from a source and turning it into a sentence of your own.

Source-based plagiarism:
Source-based plagiarism can be difficult to understand. With this type of plagiarism, authors may cite their sources accurately but present the sources in a misleading way. For example, authors may cite a secondary source in their work but credit only the primary source from which that secondary source is derived. Other examples include citing an incorrect source and even fabricating sources.
Accidental plagiarism:
Accidental plagiarism is probably the most common type of plagiarism because when it happens the author does not realize they are stealing someone else's work.
How can we avoid plagiarism?
Intentional plagiarism is the intentional copying or use of another's work without credit. Unintentional plagiarism can result from sloppy writing research and poor net-taking or careless "cutting and pasting" of electronic sources. Both deliberate and inadvertent theft should be kept in mind.
To avoid plagiarism, we can
1/ use a plagiarism checker.
2/ Think and give time before writing your essay.
3/ Cite the source while writing.
4/ Be sure to use citations and name sources while writing.
5/ When paraphrasing, change the sentence structure, language and voice of a text.
6/ Cite the source

Quality Content Creation When I create good and quality content I don't expect plagiarism because everything written comes from my galvanize ideals. Conclusion I have written extensively in this Achievement3 task and I have learned a great deal. I also got the background knowledge here to write and share good quality content as well as plagiarism free.
