In this article, I will be giving a review of my understanding of Curation and Community on the Steem platform.

Do you understand how voting and curation work on Steemit?

Voting:
Voting is a way of appreciating a post and showing support to the author of that post. Just like other platforms like Twitter, Instagram or Facebook where you like photos and posts that you find interesting, on Steemit these like are referred to as upvotes and the, unlike button, is referred to as downvotes, as there are two types of the vote on Steemit;

1. Upvote
2. Downvote
   But also note that if you are a Newcomer on Steemit with little Steem Power (SP), your Voting Power ( the weight of your vote) is weak. That means your votes cannot add ($BD) to a post. Sure, the vote will count but it won't add money to the post. So to increase your voting power, you need to Power Up by converting Steem to Steem Power.

Curation:
This is when an Upvote with a significant amount of $BD is cast on your post by steemit curators or a person with high Voting Power.
Some of Steemit curators I've seen upvote a post;

When curators upvote your post, 50% of the reward goes to them (the curators) as payment for their votes and the other 50% goes to you (the author) of that post. This reward distribution depends on how much Steem Power (SP) you have. The higher your Steem power, the higher your impact will be on the curation reward. That is why it's very good to Power Up.

What happened if you Vote on a post within 5 minutes of posting?

Remember I mentioned above that when we upvote a post, half of the reward goes to the curator and the other half goes to the author of the post. But if we vote just before 5 minutes after the post is uploaded, the rewards will not be distributed evenly (50-50):

Time	Distribution
1 Minute	Curator receives 20%, 80% remains in the rewards pool.
2 Minute	Curator receives 40%, 60% remains in the rewards pool.
3 Minute	Curator receives 60%, 40% remains in the rewards pool.
4 Minute	Curator receives 80%, 20% remains in the rewards pool.
5 Minute & after	Curator receives all 100% rewards.

Who will you vote for Steem Witness and Why?

To vote for a Steem Witness, go to the Witness Voting page. On this page, you can only vote for an active witness and You are able to vote for only 30 witnesses.

I would be voting for @justyy, the developer of one of the most important Steem tools. He created the Steem Blockchain Tools & APIs. This tool amongst so many other things can be used to manage and monitor your Steemit Account Information.

What communities will you join in steemit and why?

I already joined some interesting communities, and as time goes, I will seek and join other communities as well.

First community I join immediately after I signed up on Steemit was the Newcomers' Community, this community gave me a tour on the Steem platform. Now I am well educated on how the Steemit network works.

Then I also joined CampusConnect for its campus-related posts in Nigeria and contests.

Next up, I want to know my way around Steemit Nursery so that I can be verified in the community and earn some rewards as well for posts.
