Hello every one, I am glad to write my achievement 3 entitled Content Etiquette.

Steemit is a platform where the users are expected to publish and share quality post with original content. So, there are rules governing the post of users in the platform. In steemit platform, it is encouraged that when you publish a content, it must be from your brain, it must be of original content. If you add external material in the content, you must reference it fully. If you do not do that, you are guilty of what is termed plagiarism.

Plagiarism arises when you make someone's ideas or expressions look like your own without making reference to them. Plagiarism could come in different forms. It might be copying ideas or words from a source without quotation marks. It might be paraphrasing from multiple sources and making the text fit together. It also include publishing a content without any original content. Even when you give incorrect information about the source of the quotation is included.

Now, there are different types of plagiarism and they include: Self plagiarism, Accidental plagiarism, Mosaic plagiarism, Paraphrasing plagiarism, Verbatim plagiarism, etc.

SELF PLAGIARISM
This type of plagiarism takes place when a writer while posting a new work, republishes an entire work previously written or makes use of some portions of it.

ACCIDENTAL PLAGIARISM
This type of plagiarism takes place when a writer intentionally avoid citing a material source or quotes their sources wrongly. It might also happen when a person unintentionally paraphrase a source by using group of words and will not give credit to the original owner.

MOSAIC PLAGIARISM
This one takes place when a publisher lifts words from a source and does not put quotation marks, or maybe using synonyms to replace the author's language while retaining the same general structure and meaning of the original write up.

VERBATIM PLAGIARISM
This takes place when someone directly copies a passage or text without citation.

PARAPHRASING PLAGIARISM
This type involves rephrasing someone's else ideas without citing the source.

HOW CAN PLAGIARISM BE AVOIDED?
When you are using someone's thought, you have to cite the sources correctly. When you lift phrases directly, ensure that you place them inside quotation marks. If you happen to put someone's else ideas in your own words, ensure you give proper credit to the person.

CITATION
This implies that when you lift a phrase from someone's work, word by word, you must put it in quotation marks and cite the material source. Take for example the statement below:

It is a fact that apples contain much health benefits for the human body.
"Apples are a good source of fiber and vitamin C. They also contain polyphenols, which may have numerous health benefits". Source
Two qualities that make apples filling is that they are high in fire and water. Source

The above example has one original sentence.

It is a fact that apples contain much health benefits for the human body.

The next sentence is copy and pasted from its source without alterations and is in quotation marks.

"Apples are a good source of fiber and vitamin C. They also contain polyphenols, which may have numerous health benefits".

The last sentence is paraphrased information and has source too.

Two qualities that make apples filling is that they are high in fiber and water.
