Definition of plagiarism:
Plagiarism: I can define plagiarism as the fraudulent practices or act of presenting someone else work without adequate acknowledgement of its source, as though it were one’s own. Any time a person or group of person (people) uses an idea written or verbally that the person is not the owner or primary source of that idea without the acknowledgement of the primary source or without citing the author or owner of that idea, at that point, know that plagiarism have taken place.

Types of plagiarism

Five most common types of plagiarism are:

  1. Global plagiarism
  2. Verbatim plagiarism
  3. Paraphrasing plagiarism
  4. Patchwork plagiarism
  5. Self plagiarism
  • Global plagiarism is the practice or an act of taking a whole of another person’s article for publication, by claiming to be the author. For example, if you get someone else to write an essay, an or term paper for you, or if you find a text online and submit it as your own work, you are committing global plagiarism.
  • Verbatim plagiarism, have another name which is direct plagiarism, means using another person’s idea by pasting into your write up after copying it without citing the author. You can copy all completely or you might have changed or some parts has been edited so that it would be as if you are the primary source. Even if the majority of words has been structured and edited, if it is still like the original, it is known as verbatim plagiarism, though you change or delete some characters.
  • *Paraphrasing plagiarism this talk about rephrasing another person’s ideas to present them as your own. It can also be considered fixing a piece of text into your own article
  • Patchwork plagiarism is when you try to logically stitch together parts of different sources by combining it to create your write up. It is also known as mosaic plagiarism, which is copying sentences, passages, philosophies from different sources to create your own new article

-Self-plagiarism this come to stay if the original owner of the article or any write up post again the previous write up. Here, the author re-post the old or past idea as if it were new idea.
