Mission: Impossible is a series of American spy films based on the television series of the same name by Bruce Zeller. The main producer of the series is Tom Cruise, who plays Ethan Hunt here as an agent of the Impossible Mission Force (IMF). Films from various filmmakers and crews have been directed, composed, and modified while incorporating musical content from Lalo Shifrin’s original series.

The series has received numerous positive responses from critics and listeners. It is the 16th highest-grossing film series of all time, grossing 3.5 billion worldwide. It is regarded as one of the best action franchises.

The story begins with the assassination of IMF agent Trevor Hanao in Budapest, the assassin Sabin Morau. The assassin then received his file containing the Russian nuclear launch code, which was with Trevor Hanawi.

IMF agent Ethan Hunt was deliberately detained in a Moscow prison to capture Bogdan, the source of Cobalt's information. Hunt and Bogdan must flee with the help of Hanoi handler Jane Carter and newly diseased field agent Benji Dunn. The purpose of the IMF is to find out more about cobalt. During the mission, an internal IMF team broadcasts an improvised explosive device, which alerted the Kremlin police. A bomb destroyed much of the Kremlin and disrupted Hunt's team's mission. Carter and Dan managed to escape, but Hunt was captured by SVR agent Anatoly Sidorov and charged with destroying the Kremlin.

Hunt later fled and met with the IMF secretary in Moscow to discuss other business matters. The secretary told Hunt that they had to start a "ghost protocol" by denying the IMF, but secretly instructed Hunt to continue following Cobalt. Sidorov's forces captured Hunt and the secretary died. Hunt fled with William Brand, the secretary's aide and intelligence analyst.

Hunt and his team then embarked on a mission to recover the code and traveled to Dubai to do so. At the Burj Khalifa Tower in Dubai, they set out on a mission in search of cobalt and recovered the nuclear code. Towards the end of the film, Ethan Hunt is seen coming out with another new mission.
