Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes un instrumento musical que es patrimonio cultural en mi amado país: Venezuela: se denomina “Cuatro”, que es una especie de guitarra pequeña, con cuerdas que producen un sonido al tocarlas con los dedos o uñas.

Today I want to share with you a musical instrument that is cultural heritage in my beloved country: Venezuela: it is called "Cuatro", which is a kind of small guitar, with strings that produce a sound when you play them with your fingers or fingernails.

El cuatro es símbolo de nuestro folklore y se utiliza en distintos géneros musicales; que son variados en cada región del país. En mi pueblo el cuatro no puede faltar en la gaita zuliana, espero que tengan la oportunidad de escucharla, son demasiado divertidas y coloridas, también va acompañada de letras de canciones de tipo protesta social, de un modo que te llega a lo más profundo del ser.

The cuatro is a symbol of our folklore and is used in different musical genres, which are varied in each region of the country. In my town the cuatro can not miss in the gaita zuliana, I hope you have the opportunity to hear it, they are too fun and colorful, it is also accompanied by lyrics of songs of social protest type, in a way that reaches the depths of your being.

En las escuelas venezolanas, públicas o privadas, se insta a los estudiantes a conocer, valorar, y tocar este instrumento: el cuatro. Yo recuerdo haber tenido clases de música en la escuela, aunque con el pasar del tiempo no se sumó a mis talentos, más sí a uno de mis mayores disfrutes y deleite: escuchar música.

In Venezuelan schools, public or private, students are urged to know, value, and play this instrument: the cuatro. I remember having music lessons in school, although as time went by it did not add to my talents, but it did add to one of my greatest enjoyments and delights: listening to music.

Adicional al cuatro, se destaca mucho el tambor, herencia de los africanos que llegaron a nuestro país y que forma parte de nuestra música venezolana. En cada hogar hay un cuatro y un tambor, les muestro el que tenemos en casa. La mayoría de nuestros niños lo tocan a temprana edad, como se ve en la imagen que muestro, de mi hija en su preescolar.

In addition to the cuatro, the tambor, a legacy of the Africans who came to our country and which is part of our Venezuelan music, stands out. In every home there is a cuatro and a drum, I show you the one we have at home. Most of our children play it at an early age, as you can see in the picture I show you, of my daughter in her preschool.
