A spell I'd cast on Nigeria; if I had a magic wand.

Prologue

I pledge to Nigeria my country, to be faithful, loyal and honest, to defend our unity and uphold our honour and glory so help me God.

This was the lines of words we had to recite everyday in nursery and primary school.
Maybe we never knew too much, what we recited, with our young and infant minds, we recited it joyfully, oh our National pledge!!!.

As we grew older into the secondary (high school) we began to understand the essence of the pledge we recited every morning, we recited it looking from a different perspective, we recited it with hope, with passion, with believe that the Nigeria we witnessed then will get better.

I remember a time in secondary school, just before I wrote my O'Level examination, my Geography teacher sat us down and told us how Nigeria was when he was a student, how bad it was and how much Hope they had in their future, the hope of a better Nigeria, that yes he's now in his then future and all he can wish for is to rather see Nigeria go back to how it was when he was small seeing that as being preferable.

He made example of how our former head of State had made away with so many public funds, sighting that some others just rather than stealing directly, worked so hard to sabotage the same infrastructures they used the national funds to build, just to create a situation where they had they can repair it and as such seize that opportunity to inflate the rates so as to syphon the remains.

We were consoled with the fact that we upcoming youths and future leaders will be the ones to right the wrongs of our fathers, I personally felt we had hope, hope of making the dream's big our founding fathers reality.

Yes Nigerias insecurity State has grown from worse to worst, yes Nigerias Economical downtrend is going deeper, yes everything thing ain't going the right way that wouldn't have made me feel Nigerias hope is cut off, because one would have still believed that "...the beautiful ones are not yet born...".

But it has been a trend for ages that for every generation that takes over have always been looking for more sneaky ways to outsmart the older generation and thus will never stop.

Let's drag our minds down memory lane, 2020, during the era of the covid19 lockdown, when our people decided to stand up for themselves to utilize "the voice of the masses" , staging an internationally recognized #endsars protest.
The whole world support the movement, as it was the most passionate and intense 21st century protest in African.

A crusade against all forms of abnormalities in the Nigerian governing system, ranging from the executive, the legislative, the judiciary and the law enforcement agencies in particular, what a beauty it was to see the youths that organised and United until the sheep clothing was unraveled and Nigerians. became the Nigerians we knew and not the Nigerians we thought the had become.

The same Nigerians who staged the Reformation crusade equally seized the slightest chance to
Loot the Same Nigeria they projected the were fighting for, Oh what a show!!!
The leaders at the top would be saying "...how better are they than us?...."
I imagine them saying "...how can a dog breed a sheep?.."

The worst was that when the said corrupt leader called upon the leaders of the protests to negotiate with them offering them fund's to share a amongst all the protesters the normal Nigerian way, the Same crusade organizer got money and personalized it.

This makes me ask; is this not the same persons that will become leaders tomorrow?, I then realized that the corrupt leaders of today where once the youths of yesterday who preached for a reformed Nigeria.

Then what's the Hope of Nigeria?, where's the hope of Nigeria?.

It's normal, it's a fate we had long learned to accept, that there's no hope for a better Nigeria, unless there's a magical intervention.

If I had a magic wand

The problem of Nigeria is the "Nigerian mindset" the Nigerian mindset want to enrich itself at the expense of his sibling that's brings fraud.
The Nigerian mindset feels he's always right, that brings inter continual/tribal/religious wars

  • The Nigerian mindset want to make it the easy way, that brings syphoning of public funds, etc
  • The Nigerian mindset is selfish and self centered
  • The Nigerian mindset is jealous
  • There's more imorality in the Nigerian mindset that one can imagine and this is the cause of our problems.

If we could cleanse totally, an average Nigerian mindset, that would be the beginning of our hope, So if I had a magic wand I'd cast a spell that would cleanse and rebrand the mindset of each and every Nigeria from leaders in power to the least common man in the street.

I want to take time out to express appreciations to @botefarm for this nice opportunity.
More grace fam!!!
