Local Business Review: "Educated Agidi" owned by Moses Eteng by ityfrank
Introduction
This is Moses Eteng. He sells Agidi, and he calls his business, "Educated Agidi".
Adigi is a delicacy in this part of the country. It is made from maize. The maize is grinded and then mixed with water and sieved with a piece of cloth to extract the starch as if u want to make "Ogi" or "Akamu", but after you extracting the starch, you allow it to settle like when making Ogi, then you decant the water and take the starch that settled under. Now, add a little water, let the water you add here be very little so that it is not watery like Ogi when cooked, but thick and solid instead. Add condiments like salt, pepper, Maggie, onions, fish and even meat, depending on how you want it, then put it on the fire and stirr it till is becomes thick. Scoup it before it gets cold into leaves, tire it and allow to cool. It sets into a solid when cold, and your delicious Agidi is ready!
How I Met Him
So yesterday, infront of Epic Plaza, at Ikot Ekpene Road, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, I saw this young man walk pass me. Before I could recall who it was, he had passed. As I turned, he had gone a great distance because he was waking very fast, like he had and appointment.
I had seen post of this young man some months before then, and people were commending him for his courage and method of marketing: how he's always dressed up in suits and tie to hawk his Agidi! Funny, but really a captivating sight, and "Today I'm seeing him life!"
The Discussion
So I decided to go to talk to him, but at the speed he was going, I had to doubled up to catch up. I found him selling to someone in a bus. Wearing a well starched, well tucked in shirt, with his polished cover shoes and and earbud in one ear and a nose mask to protect him against COVID 19. So I waited for him to finish and called him, and asked him to sell one for me. I used that opportunity to engage him in a little conversation. I took pictures with him and even took his phone number and Facebook username.
When I was done, a lady walked up to me and began to gist me about him. Shs said people love to patronize him because of his dressing. That in less than two hours, he would have finished selling everything we see there, and she added that he is a graduate. At that point I didn't know wether to feel bad for him for not having a job or feel bad for myself for not hustling enough to make more money.
Conclusion
His Agidi goes for N100 each and it's very tasty. Some people say he makes up to twenty thousand Naira every day. Even after leaving the scene, thoughts of the young man was all that filled my mind.
You can patronize him if you are in Uyo because his Agidi is very tasty. Here are his phone number and Facebook page name:
