You are welcome to this week contest given by @steemalive, Today i will be discussing on Topic 5 which is about peer pressure, i will be discussing on the meaning of peer pressure, examples of peer pressure and how to handle peer pressure

ABOUT PEER PRESSURE

PEER PRESSURE: It is the influence wielded by people within the same social group. It is also the term used to describe the effect this influence has on a person to conform in order to be accepted by the group. Often, peers are thought of as friends, but peers can be anyone of a similar status, such as people who are the same age, who have the same abilities, or who share a social status.Source

SIGNS OF PEER PRESSURE

Some peer pressure can be easily notice than others, as a parent being able to spot peer pressure in your child helps you know when is right to give them supportive advice about they way they should or shouldn't behave.

Some common signs of peer pressure are;

  • Change in behavior
  • Trying out new hair or clothing styles
  • making social comparison
  • Avoiding school
  • Changing the way the talk or the word the use

TYPO OF PEER PRESSURE

Peer pressure are of different types, which are positive and negative;

  • POSITIVE PEER PRESSURE: These is when the group of friends you are associating with encourages you to do something good.
  • NEGATIVE PEER PRESSURE: This is when the friends you associate with pressure you in doing something damaging or dangerous.

EXAMPLES OF PEER PRESSURE

There are;

  • Encouraging a friend to read harder towards exams
  • Saving money to purchase something big or important like textbook and encouraging a friend to do the same
  • Convincing a friend to skip classes
  • Pressuring a friend in following you to a night club
  • Pressuring or pushing someone in buying an ilegal stuff

HOW SOMEONE CAN HANDLE PEER PRESSURE

  • By learning how to give excuses on things that he doesn't want to do or be a part of
  • By learning to plan ahead and to know when to leave any situation there are not comfortable in
  • By giving your kids early advice about what is good and bad, so that none of their friends can pressure them in doing something bad or ilegal
  • By learning how to walk away from your friends when you are being pressured to do something
  • By learning to build friendship with the right people
  • Having a friend who will stand by you in every decision you take
  • By seeking advice from an elderly person when you face pressure that is hard to handle by yourself.

CONCLUSION

Peer pressure is good and bad,but to avoid the negative part of it, you know the kind of company you keep.

This is really an educative post and an important one since this topic is playing a huge role in the society today. Some persons get adapted to new behaviors because they want to feel among or want to please some persons. But my advice is that we should embrace the positive Peer pressure and not otherwise.
