Growing Up With ADHD

I only discovered I had ADHD in 2021, when I was 20 years already, and it kinda gave me an answer to everything I've been struggling with my entire life.

This was posted by me on Hive Here just not to be accused of plagiarism.

Growing up, I never knew why I had problems focusing in a classroom, I never knew why my teachers thought I'm "unintelligent" especially math teachers. I never knew why I was unlike my peers and why do I need to exert much more effort to get the same results.

I had excessive friction with life from an early age that I wanted to commit suicide when I was in grade 5.

I couldn't just sit still without talking, drawing, or doing anything teachers might label as "inappropriate" and I was the most punished student in my school probably that I was kicked out of class more often than I stayed there.

I spent endless hours outside of my class waiting for the class to end so I can get some rest of standing.

One of the darkest sides of my childhood was having a kind of an identity crisis struggling to know who I really am, as I'm always indecisive and unable to decide on anything.

Turns out that my teachers were punishing me for having a mental illness that both of us knew nothing about, that's why when I knew I had ADHD I had an answer to almost all the problems I ran into throughout my entire life.

The reason why I'm writing this is when I saw how my little brother's swimming coach was shouting at him because he can't focus enough and do what is required I remembered everything I've faced throughout my childhood, and how that teachers and coaches are unaware of such a mental illness and how can this impact children.

I'm not whining about my mental illness because know I know better how to handle and cope with it, but this is a message to everyone who deals with children to educate them self on ADHD and other mental illnesses that are common among children.

Also, if you're suffering from ADHD you must know that with very simple techniques you can cope with it and minimize its impact on you, and if you'd like to know more about such a topic just write me a comment and I'll mention you in my upcoming posts on how to cope with ADHD.

Blessings.
