Reverse vaccination technique in mice suggests new way to teach the immune system not to attack lifesaving treatments - The Conversation

An overactive immune system is problematic for people who are being treated for certain illnesses, such as Pompe Disease. As time goes on, the immune system makes it progressively more difficult to deliver safe and effective treatments. To deal with this problem, these researchers are testing a novel mechanism in mice.

A lipid molecule known as phosphatidylserine (PS) is found in the inner cellular membrane of healthy cells. When a cell dies, however, the PS becomes exposed, and it signals the body to send a specialized type of "clean-up" cell to get rid of the leftover debris. The exposed PS also signals the body's immune system to ignore the debris. Taking advantage of this observation, the research team tested with an optimized form of PS in mice, and delivered a result where 75% of mice did not develop an immune response to a treatment.

The next step for the team is to translate these findings into clinical trials for humans.

Autoimmune conditions like Type 1 diabetes, multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis arise when an immune system mistakenly attacks its own body’s proteins, cells and organs. Not only do these conditions make the body attack itself, they can also destroy the medications intended to treat them.

A reverse vaccination approach my research team and I developed, however, could train the immune system to ignore self-proteins and prevent unwanted immune responses.

There is a lot of news that I have pending to read in a matter of week, many new scientific and astrological news have come out.

We do not know how our immune system will react to this type of vaccine, sometimes I wonder who would be able to inject a vaccine that is being tested.

I like when scientists focus on something like this, helping, not destroying, creating biological weapons is the constant today, many of us have knowledge about this, the internet is a means that allows us to obtain knowledge, each time technology helps and advances, I hope it focuses more on making life better than destroying it

Obviously that's a good innovation. It is better to build up good immune system with intrinsic ingredients. I hope this will work in human body too. Waiting for further good news.
