in zzan2 years ago
The tradition of peusijuek or menepung Tawari in the life of the Acehnese people is not a custom that just exists and stands alone, because the peusijuek habit is carried out in a series of carrying out other customs, for example when marriage customs are carried out or when reconciling a case according to custom, and so on.

The custom of holding peusijuek has been around for a long time in Acehnese society and it is not known exactly when it started and where it came from. Some say that peusijuek existed in society before Islam came to Aceh.

As part of human culture, peusijuek experience changes and developments in line with the development of human life. Thus, after the arrival of Islam, the peusijuek habit was given the breath of Islam in the ways of its implementation and adapted to Islamic teachings. For example, when peusijuek begins by reading Basmalah and finally reading Islamic prayers.

The peusijuek tradition is a tool to strengthen kinship and community solidarity. The peusijuek tradition is usually carried out by the community when welcoming something and building something new, such as peusijuek for someone who returns from overseas, then the peusijuek builds a new house, and even in the election of someone to become a leader, the community is also peusijuek.

The peusijuek tradition is thought to have originated from elements of Hindu culture, where at that time the Acehnese in particular still used certain mantras or prayers. However, since Islam entered Aceh, the peusijuek tradition was later changed by the inclusion of Islamic elements in it, including containing prayers of safety and sholawat. Since Islam entered and developed in Aceh, the traditions found in Acehnese society which previously contained elements of Hindu culture, have now been adapted to the teachings recommended by Islam.

Before doing peusijuek, there are several materials that must be collected first as a condition for doing peusijuek. The ingredients are in the form of plants taken from several types of plants, which consist of rice, rice, grass (naleung sambo), senejuk leaves, flour and water, yellow sticky rice, and envelopes. Each of these bodies has a meaning that can be applied in social and religious life. Because everything created by God must have a meaning and purpose of each.

The materials that are considered as a condition for the procession of carrying out the peusijuek are not just choosing the existing materials, but these materials have their own meaning, both in nature and physically, the whole meaning of which will be described to human life. The purpose in determining these objects or materials is none other than because the object is considered a form of human nature and behavior that should be practiced in daily life, and it is hoped that by peusijuek someone with the object will be like the object that is the attitude and morals. that someone. The following is the meaning of objects or equipment for peusijuek:
• Paddy
Rice gives meaning to those who are peusijuek, that's how we see rice how its life is, the fuller it is the more it bends down, so in this life there is nothing to be proud of, that above the sky there is still a sky. The message is that a person should be like the nature of rice in this life.
• Rice
Rice gives the meaning that rice is a filling food. The hope is that someone who is peusijuek can be useful for others. “Rice gives the meaning that it can make people full if it is cooked. When rice is cooked into rice, it is eaten by a lot of people and it is filling.” This means that during his life he should be able to provide something that is useful or can be of benefit to the people and many people. Not the other way around, namely setting a bad example for others and even creating havoc for others.
• Water and Flour
Water is synonymous with cold and fresh, while white flour is identical with the symbol of white as something holy and clean, a broader meaning is that in human life always live calmly and cleanly or do not harbor envy or even envy, must have good thoughts and do not assume bad for others.
• Sambo grass that has been tied together with other leaves. When viewed from the growth it is in groups, unlike other grasses, and does not live anywhere. This type of grass lives in piles, its fibers are very strong and not easy to break, even animals such as buffalo will not eat this type of grass because the grass is so strong.
• On Sisijuk known as cocor duck leaf, this leaf is now very familiar and is widely planted in the yard of people's homes. This leaf can be used to treat several diseases such as hypertension, fever, headache and cancer. The leaves of cocor duck have soft stems and are segmented, have thick and full leaves and contain a water content that tastes a little sour and cold. The cold leaves are used as a symbol of coolness in the peusijuek procession.
• Maneuk manoe flower is a type of plant originating from Asia and Africa, the leaves can also be consumed by the public, and can be used for animal feed. Usually people use it as an antidote to snake bites. Maneuk manoe when it grows just has a few leaves but the flower has bloomed again, the flowering continues continuously until the flower dies, the meaning that can be taken is that in human life must be like a maneuk manoe flower, our hearts are always full of flowers, clean and white . When do these things stop us from doing, when someone has left
