Self Upvote! Should It Be Practiced? Can You Bear It's Penalty?

Hello friends,

It is a great honor to be before this great community again to express myself by making quality post.

The making of quality posts is one way in which we teach ourselves and learn from each other.
As I was making research, then an idea came to my head of which I felt that I should relate with my fellow friends in this community.

We have been hearing of self-upvotes all the time, many knows what self upvote is and others probably don't know.

I decided to make this post because the rate at which steemians practice self upvote is alarming.
Although, every steemian want their post to be upvoted but is that enough reason to practice self upvote?

Follow along as we consider what self upvote is and it's consequences.

WHAT IS SELF UPVOTE

Self upvote can be explained to be a situation where individual users upvote their publication using their accounts

Agreed, the steemit platform is a social media platform where we interact with one another through upvotes and quality comments.
Little wonders why it is a necessity to have above 10upvotes and quality comments on your engagement for you to qualify as a winner.

Still, many engage in self upvote which is against the ethics and policy of steemit platform.

Just imagine if SC01 and SC02 should engage in self upvote only, how will we feel? Would the platform be conducive for us to stay in?
All these are thoughts we should consider before engaging in self-upvote again.

WHY MIGHT STEEMIANS THINK OF ENGAGING IN SELF-UPVOTE

As humans differ so are the reasons individual engage in self-upvote, that is, there are different reasons individual users engage in self-upvote and some popularly known ones are:

  • TO EARN MORE:

Many individuals engage in self-upvote because they believe that when they upvote their post, it will mean more rewards, which is not right, as steemit is not a "get rich quick" scheme.

  • TO BUILD REPUTATION:

The building of reputation is another reason why some users consider self upvote.
They feel that the more they upvote their publication, the higher their reputation becomes.

  • LACK OF PATIENCE:
Research has it that many who engage in self-upvote lack patience, they feel steemit is a platform where you come and get rich quickly.

They feel that by engaging in self-upvote, they are hastening the rate at which they get rich.
They lack patience of building their accounts and earning just like others.

  • SELF ISOLATION:
What I mean by self isolation is that this set of steemians don't want to relate with other steemians on the steemit platform.

Probably they feel that they are of higher class than others, and as such they engage in self-upvote.

This set of steemians are the wealthy ones, they buy steems from the external market and send it in to steemit and begin self-upvote, they are some of them on steemit and I encourage all to stop, as it is against the ethics of steemit.

  • THEY FEEL THEY CANNOT BE NOTICED:
Some steemians probably have tried their best on the steemit platform to get noticed, probably they have made series of post, they have been engaging on the post of others but they haven't been noticed yet.

And at such, they feel the best way to go about it is to upvote their publication.

MY VIEW ON SELF-UPVOTE

I feel that there's no justifiable reason why a steemian should manually upvote his post.

  • If a steemian wants to earn more on steemit platform, self-upvote is not the right way to go about it.

Such a steemian can increase his activities on steemit, probably make it a goal to submit 3 quality posts daily, making it a total of 21 quality post in a week.

If a steemian does that, and he earn at least $5 on each post, that would amount to a total of $105 per week and I believe that is not a bad weekly earning

  • The building of reputation on steemit is not so difficult as some put it, you just have to receive upvote to build your reputation.

A user can do this by making use of the right #tag and get a chance of being selected as one of the top7 for the week.
Being selected as top 7 will help earn you an upvote from SC01, thus boosting your reputation.

  • For those that lack patience on steemit, those that feel they can just join steemit and earn the same as those that have been on steemit for years, I'm so to disappoint you buddy, but steemit is not a "get rich quick" platform.

Without patience and consistency, it will be difficult to earn on steemit.

As seen above people get different rewards in steemit because some has spent a reasonable amount of time on steemit while some are new.

If only the new ones can be patient and hard-working enough, they will also earn on steemit.

  • Another reason users self-upvote is because they feel they don't get supported, that is not a good reason to engage in self upvote.

If a steemian wants to get noticed, he should regularly comment on the post of prominent users, he should make quality post, he should have a high voting csi and also he should watch very closely his environment.

Let's take for example, a steemian regularly making post and doing well in engagement, but such a steemian fails to power up.
It will be inappropriate for such a user to continually receive support from others that have spent time to build their steempower.

So if we want to be supported, we have to follow the rules.

THE ONLY JUSTIFIABLE REASON FOR SELF-UPVOTE

Although self-upvote is very wrong but there's a justifiable reason to engage in self-upvote.

The only reason a user will be pardoned for engaging in self-upvote is if it is done with a curation trail.

Yes, to increase our voting csi, many steemians have joined a curation trail, and when the trail upvotes their post, it is in a sense a self upvote, since they are a member of the trail.

And since this trail is most times not handled by them, so they won't be blamed for such upvotes.

HOW TO CHECK IF A USER HAVE ENGAGED IN SELF-UPVOTE

To check if an individual has engaged in self-upvote is quite easy, all you have to do is visit steemworld

Screenshot_20220627-173956.png

As shown above, it is seen that although I have a voting CSI of 40, I don't have a single upvote.
Such a practice will be very nice.

CONCLUSION

In as much as we want upvotes, we should desist from self-upvote as it is a wrong practice.

Truth be told, if it is noticed that a user regularly upvotes his post, it might prevent such a user from receiving support from the steemit team.

I use this opportunity to plead to all, to avoid engaging in self-upvote.
