"Let's talk!" №11 - "Can a woman earn more money than her man?"

First of all I will like to thank the @steemit-family for coming up with such brilliant questions. I try to participate in various contests for engagement, but all I see these days is food and photography contest. @steemit-family you come up with some really thought provoking questions which are so relevant for today's time. And I only wish that you get more support from the big curators on Steem for your high level of engagement.

To answer your question. We live in a male dominant society where right from the beginning the conditioning happens that the man is the bread earner and the woman is the home maker. Very few parents teach their children lessons of equality. In such a society which at large believes that man is the earning member of the family, when a woman rises up to that it becomes a matter of ego for many man.

Why can't a woman be the only earning member of the family or earn more. Well I am not generalizing this. Again the thought process is different in different parts of the world. In the western society this may not be a concern at all, but from where I come, this definitely is. I am from India and I have been living in Middle East. In both these societies there are a lot of cultural influences which are very strong, and as per that man are meant to be the dominant earning member of the family.

But the times that we are living in are very difficult economic wise and hence nowadays many man have started accepting that the woman of the house should also earn to meet the family ends. The patterns are changing, but again the male ego is always there and it becomes difficult for them to accept if the woman starts earning more than them. Their ego gets hurt. They are ok till the time their woman is earning less than them. The moment their woman starts earning more they feel some type of threat on their masculinity. Again as I say it cannot be made general for all, this is at large. There are many families where woman are earning more than their man or are the only earning member and their man have absolutely no issues. But this ratio is very small.

My hair dresser, she earns more than her husband. Her husband is rather jobless. She supports her family majorly, but I still see that so many times her husband ill treats her and she tells me often, that he feels very insecure because of her high earning. It's a generational mind set, which has to change. How does it matter who earns more man or woman, at the end of the day it is one income coming home which is helpful for the family or for individual couples.

A Woman if has an opportunity to earn more than why not. Gone are those times when woman use to shy off with these things. Nowadays women wants to shine out, they have all the capabilities and they want to prove it. So if they get an opportunity then why not. Good income for the family means a better life for the family. In the times we live what matters is money, and not who gets it.

I do understand that the answer to this one was in commenting but since it has become so long, I preferred to make a post of it.
