It was conveyed that this year's National Teachers' Day has the theme Great Teachers Strong Indonesia. The theme has three meanings.
First, an affirmation of the meaning and important position of teachers. According to the Teachers and Lecturers Law number 14/2005, teachers are professional educators who are tasked with teaching, educating, guiding, and assessing the learning outcomes of students.
Second, teachers not only act as learning agents, but also as agents of civilization. Teachers do not only educate students to have intelligence, skills, and noble character.
Third, teachers as determinants of the quality of human resources, the generation of the nation who continue the struggle and are responsible for advancing the nation and state.
"Great teachers determine the quality of learning, graduates, and the quality of human resources," he said.
In line with the vision of quality education for all, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is trying to improve the quality of teachers through three priority programs.
First, fulfilling teacher qualifications. There are hundreds of thousands of teachers who do not have a D-IV or Bachelor's degree (S1). Gradually, the ministry is trying to provide opportunities for teachers to be able to continue their studies to the D-IV/S-1 level of education.
Second, improving teacher competence which is not limited to academic, pedagogical, moral, and social competence but also entrepreneurship, and leadership through various training.
"In order to strengthen character education and noble morals, the ministry has begun to provide guidance counseling and value education training for class teachers and subject teachers," said the Acting Regent of Bireuen.
Third, the ministry is trying to improve teacher welfare through certification for both ASN PNS and PPPK teachers and non-ASN. In 2025, there will be more than 606 thousand teachers who will receive certification allowances.
By improving the welfare of teachers, it is hoped that it can improve dedication and the quality of learning.
Teachers should also not commit acts of violence against students in any form," he hoped.
Regarding teacher protection, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education will sign a memorandum of understanding and cooperation agreement with the Indonesian National Police.
"It contains an agreement so that problems of violence in education are resolved peacefully and in a family way or Restorative Justice (RJ) so that teachers do not become convicts," concluded the Acting Regent of Bireuen.
