Minhaj Siraj has provided important information about himself and his family in the description of various parts of his Persian writings. He said Ghazni came from his third generation ancestor, Imam Abdul Khaliq Jujan (a place between Marv and Balkh). In Ghazni she was favored by the ruler Ibrahim and married one of his forty daughters.Their descendant, Maulana Sirajuddin Mohammad Tajik, is the father of Minhaj Siraj, the author of Tabaqat e Nasiri. Sirajuddin Mohammad appointed Tajik in the army of Muhammad Ghuri in 116 AH / 572 AH. He received the title of Aju Batuj Zaman Afsahul Azam. He was reportedly killed by bandits on his way to Baghdad via Makran.

Minhaj Siraj was as talented as his father. He came to Sindh, Uchh and Multan from Ghur in 624 AH / 1226 AD. During this time he gained a reputation in science and became the principal of the Upper Firuji College. The following year, in 1226 AD, when Sultan Iltutmish came to suppress the revolt of Nasir Uddin Kubachar,Minhaj then met him and moved to Delhi as his companion. He was also with the Sultan during the siege of Gwalior in 629 AH. The Sultan initially appointed him as one of the court-preachers of Gwalior, but soon appointed him legal officer and director of all religious, moral and judicial affairs.
