SEC - S9W6: " My Biggest Challenge "
Glad to be participating in this season's challenge it quite interesting reading other authors post and seeing how they did tackle their life challenge, I hope this little piece of mine will also be an inspiration to someone here.
I'm inviting my friends @cutlass @kingjerry and @madridbg to participate in the contest and share their life experience.
What has been your biggest challenge?
One of my biggest life challenges was when I started fending for myself, the phase of being independent and searching for a greener pasture after my university life.
Like the saying goes "life's is not a bed of Rose's" this word of wisdom become dawn on me recently after finishing my one year youth national service (NYSC) here in Nigeria being a Male child comes with lots of responsibility of shouldering the family, which means after going through university and done with your one year service you have to fend for yourself and also start taking care of your parents.
It was like the flow of an ocean quick and swift one year service have been rounded, which mean I need to start looking for where I will settle down and start my life journey of being independent.
The first challenge I had was looking for an apartment, with the situation in Nigeria getting a house was very difficult especially when you dont have adequate money to rent one, I contacted some housing agent and I was shown quite a number of apartments which were high above my budget I had to look for something small within my budget plan, I finally got one after hours of searching for one in Abuja I paid and was given a one year tenant receipt which is show below with the exact payment and my signature and that of the house owner.
Step one was finding a house and the next step was getting some necessary materials like cooking utensils mattress since I was quite short of fund i had to get the basic materials.
The heat was getting quite intense as I've spend most of my savings on house rent and buying necessary items needed in my room I had to source for some extra source of income which is going out to look for job and start getting some pay. This lead to the next question on the contest.
Tell us how did you get over it?
Well giving up was one of the least things that come to my mind one thing I kept telling myself was this is a life phase and in no time things will be alright!
I remember reaching out to my uncle and telling him I'm tired of being an adult and I fell like giving up, his word of encouragement were quite motivating which did inspire me, my sincere appreciation goes to him for making me stay strong.
This are what I did and how I got over my challenge
Stayed positive; knowing there is God who never forsake his children was a calm in the midst of storm, I got to know I will not be abandoned I'm not the first person to go through this phase in life lot have come out triumph, staying positive and calm in this challenge was one of my principle key of getting over my challenge.
Kept myself busy; getting a good paycheck job in Nigeria is quite challenging so I had to put myself into action while job hunting and applying for job opportunities and applications I went online to equip myself with more information and enroll in some online courses I was able to learn basic web and application design using figma as a mechanical engineer graduate I was also engaged with technical practical work which I'm still doing currently till date while looking for a better work.
Staying positive and calm, and as well not staying ideal by putting myself to work and stay busy was a stepping stone towards overcoming my challenge.
What advice can you give us from your experience?
There is nothing under the sun that doesn't have solution, every challenges are meant to build and make us stronger understand there is reason for what we are going through is the first step towards overcoming our problems.
From my experience we need to come out from our comfort zone in order to advance in life, we need to see life for ourselves come out from our comfort shell and get exposed to life challenge this will redefine us and give us a good sense and purpose of living.
In conclusion
Life is a phase the adventure I went through of being independent did mold me and thought me with determination and good vibe we can always stay ahead of every situation we find ourselves it all start with taking that first step and another step slow and steady the journey becomes easy and we adapt to every challenge life throw at us.
Of course, it's a big challenge when you finish college and then enter the level of trying to be independent when you get out of your comfort zone, where before everything got facilities from your parents and when you're independent, you have to work on your own needs, this is very hard in my opinion. One of the biggest challenges in your life is when you start protecting yourself. Having recently completed your one-year Youth National Service (NYSC) in Nigeria as a male child, many family responsibilities fall on your shoulders. You came out of that challenge with patience and hard work which is really nice. I appreciate your presentation. Good luck to you.
