Went Out on Day Before the Vesak

It is heavy raining here morning tonight. Rivers are close to overflowing. Heavy wind and landslides had already caused many property damages. Same time economic crises beat people's day-to-day life.

Even under heavy rain, today I had to go to the town to purchase some stationaries and vegetables. As the rain stopped for a moment we skipped from the house. Petrol sheds were closed so no queues to see. There were plenty of Vesak shops that sell materials that need to make Vesak decorations.

Even though prices are little bit high people tried to purchase whatever they can. The stationary shop was full of the crowd who came to purchase papers, Vesak lantern buckets, flags, and oil lamps.

Who remembers these small paper Buddhist flags? I still remember we made hanging decorations using them and papers. We collected money around 10 to 20 rupees from each to purchase things need to Vesak decos. Now a days the value of 20 Rupees is almost no value. I remember sometimes we argue with the class monitress why collect 20 rupees instead of 10 rupees which was a large amount to us, school children. Those good days are gone!

I found this elegant Vesak lantern made with cardboard which was so popular on the day. The cost was 660 LKR per two lanterns. It was well packed and seemed like a nice business. It's happy to see someone doing this kind of quality work even though the price is a little bit high.

In my house, we have made 5 lantern frames and I have only pasted 3 of them yet. It took me whole a morning half. Anyway, even it saves my time, still I prefer to spend time and do this as I must give a break to my eyes from computers.
