Greetings to all steamians and also to Sri Lanka community members. Hope you really enjoyed your week? how about the weekend, hope it's going according to your wish?
INTRODUCTION
For the very first time I was involved in such a special event done in our church. it was such an amazing and excitful event. Best regards to saint John parish youths for such a one week retreat - that aimd at teaching, developing, culturing and establishing a strong and firm youth association as well as mutual cohesion among the youths. It is my pleasure to lay out all that I have learnt as well as the days that this events consumed; to see that it was a success- in such telling why it was my best event. Youth Week program ( a program that aims at developing the youths via teaching them skills acquisitions and development) was the only event I really enjoyed. Although the activities in the youth programs follows from day one and ends on the seventh day. Each day was characterized by a single activity until the last day. Hence, I will tell you how it went and the activities or events that took place following the number of days it lasted.
DAY 1 ACTIVITY
On the first day of the program of youths, all the stations youths were told to come to the church arena for general arrangement of the place of the event .
SECOND DAY EVENT
was the youth annual retreat programs. on the retreat held,I learnt a lot of skills and developmental strategies.
THIRD DAY EVENT
this particular day was meant for promoting cultural values as well as attires. All the youths from different stations were advised to be on their native wears.
FOURTH DAY EVENT
this was characterized by a football match the youths of saint John parish togetherly went for an away match away from their parish.
THE 5TH DAY EVENT
we took a match to Mount Carmel where we prayed and asked God for a better country, governance, president as well as bettering the lives of the youth because, youths are leaders of tomorrow.
6TH DAY EVENT
this was a great day as we all were igbos. it was known for the Igbo proverb competition day.
SEVENTH DAY EVENT
we the general youths went for a Thanksgiving mass service for a successful youth week. Gifts were given to the various winners after the service and entertainment follows via item7( we call it measurements.
Listed above were all the events that took place during the youth week programs. But my best event was on the sixth day.
MY BEST EVENT
my best event was on the 6th day and it was characterized by Igbo proverb competition. On the 13th day of August 2016,my best event took place. It was aimed at improving and establishing a base among the youths, to enable them to speak fluently in Igbo language because igbos believed that "a wise man is known by his abilities to ironically understand things as well as speaking in parables " it was a great day for me then and I can still imagine how much rate of tension I felt when I was chosen to go and represent our station; being St Theresa station.
##PEOPLE THAT ORGANIZED IT.
the event was organised by the executives of saint John parish youths in awgu local government area enugu State of Nigeria.
My unforgettable incidents
tension of being ruled out was the highest incident that I wouldn't forget till the rest of my life. During the competition ,it was set to rule out any member who fails to say a quality proverb different from what other representatives has said. The competition was among the nine stations. the table were organising in a rectangular form. the judge was standing at the middle of the rectangular shaped table where all representatives sat in the seats. it follows the other ABCD 2 infinity. The time limit to rule out a representative was three seconds and this increased the rates of tension in me. I was highly tensed as I first felt like I was sitting on high tension wire( electrical wire where current is high).
How I practice for it
throughout the day that I was chosen to represent our station I went to one igbo textbook to write out Proverbs as many as I could write on a foolscap sheet. This made it easy for me to be reading even while on the road, hospital, School and home. I was learning the Proverbs sometimes while on the field I would pass a funny proverb to a fellow and laugh with arose as he wouldn't understand it. I really contributed by being active in the seven days programmes and also by representing our station in the Igbo proverb competition.
In conclusion,we took 3rd position and was awarded a holy medal of Jesus Christ. Hope you enjoyed my my story. Appreciations all of you.such a wonderful contest thank you.
