Another one from jackfruit

If you are living in a village, I am sure that many of you had to eat jack fruit a lot in the past few weeks specially when there is a jack fruit in your home garden. I too had to face this incident. There was jackfruit everywhere so mum made different things from them. Some of them were typical recipes like jackfruit curry and boiled jackfruit. There were new recipes too like jackfruit wade and fries. This is something that one of my neighbours told her to try.

Jackfruit was boiled and mashed first. Onions, curry leaves, chilies(It is very yummy if you use a lot of kochchi) were cut into small pieces. And then we added them to some grated coconut. And add some salt, pepper, chilli flakes to it and mix. Finally add mashed jackfruit and some wheat flour. It is good to use flour and jackfruit in same amounts. Then mix them adding water and you will get a mixture like above.

Make balls from the mixture and if you like apply some oil on them. Flatten them one by one and make roti using a pan. We use a banana leaf because the dough can be little sticky and also it adds a little flavour to food. As well I love the marks that banana leaves make on the roti surface.

They came out beautifully and yummy. It is a good option to reduce the wheat flour amount we use to make roti and it adds a nice flavour too. If you have jackfruit give this recipe a try.

This is literally the normal roti recipe but with less wheat flour and some jackfruit and kochchi. If you don't like the jackfruit flavour, you have to use more flour and spices. This is nice with a very spicy lunu miris. I usually skip many foods saying very reasons. But this one got my heart.

I saw that the jackfruit tree helped many people a lot in the past weeks being a food that can get free. I too like to eat jackfruit mallum a lot. I asked mum to make them and ate them a lot so that it gave me some weight too. Now the jackfruit season is over in my area. So I couldn't eat them for weeks.
