My Town In Ten Pics - Buttala - 2020-11-19

Hello everyone,

I'm Damith from Sri lanka. Here I am with the pics of my town for the first time.

My town is Buttala, located in Monaragala District of Uva Province, Sri Lanka. It's basically a village having a history more than 2000 years. The name is derrived from 'Bath hala', which means the area that provides rice. The reason is livelihood of people mainlt depends on the paddy cultivation.

All photographs were taken by me today(2020-11-19), from my mobile phone. Sorry for the low quality of pictures, the phone is not working well lately.

1) The Clock Tower

It was constructed in 1992, with the mega development programme of the country called 'Gam Udawa'. Lately it's painted by the school children.

2) General Hospital

It's a 'type A' divisional Hospital, just about 250m away from the main Bus stand. Eventhough, it's not a big one, it surely does a great service to the area.

Gratitude for the DCC! This is my school for whole 13 years of my school life whic completely changes my life. Nearly 3000 students are studying currently being a main school of the district.

4) Menik River

The famous Menik river is flowing through the town. These days due to rain it's little bit of muddy. It is the thirteenth-longest river of Sri Lanka, approximately about 114km long. The english meaninig is 'River of Gems' as it's rich of gems under the soil.

5) Bus stand

This is a newly constructed one. These days due to pandemic situation, it's npot much crowded.

6)Monaragala-Wellawaya road

This is a part of Colombo-Batiicalo highway, an A4 road. The area near is the commercial area with most of the shops. The usual crowd is not there due to the situation of te country. Little bit of sad to see.

7) Church

The town is basically a multicultural place. Buddhists, catholics, muslims, tamils live there. This is the main christian church of the area.

8) Sub-road connecting two major roads

The road was constructed in 2012 with the purpose of connecting Buttala-Kataragama main road and Buttala-Wellawaya main road to decrease the traffic of the town. This was a paddy field in the first place. So, the government had to aquire the land paying huge compensations. But I didn't see the expectation was succeeded. Now it's basically used for drying paddy and for jogging.

9) Paddy fields

The area in both side of the road in above picture are paddy fields. In these days the cultivations are just started. So, busy days for the farmers.
