Everyone knows how hard it is to buy cement these days. So today I am going to tell you about my recent effort to buy cement.

We all know that Sri Lanka is a land of virtue. This country has been self-sufficient in everything since ancient times. The technology possessed by Sri Lankans in the past is still a mystery. The technology used to build tanks in the past, the way temples were built and the techniques used for everything are still unresolved today. In short, this is a country inhabited by cosmologists.

After independence in 1948 our country was ruled by various politicians. Many young people in our country lost their lives due to the period of Kalu Juliya in 88/89. After that our country faced a severe war for 30 years. Meanwhile, a tsunami struck, killing many people. For about 10 years after those troubles, our country was on a successful journey of development. Unfortunately in 2019, due to the easter Sunday attack, our country began to be destroyed again.,

After that a new government was elected by the people to rule our country. A few months after that government came to power, the corona virus had a severe impact on our country. The country had been locked down for a long time due to the spread of the corona virus. As a result, the country's production fell sharply. Imports were restricted due to foreign exchange problems. Exports fell due to the decline in the country's production. Due to this the prices of goods in the country went up rapidly.

Prices of raw materials, especially in the construction sector, also increase. The increase in the price of 1 ton of iron increased the price of all types of iron. A 10mm wire used to cost around Rs: 500 a year and a half ago. But now a 10mm wire costs around Rs: 850.

Also, the price of cement is going up a lot these days. The price of a bag of cement which was Rs:900 is now around Rs:1600. This was due to the government removing the control prices imposed on essential commodities. As a result, traders sell cement at prices they like.

I needed cement for our house and I searched the hardware for about three weeks straight. Since there is a huge shortage of cement in the market at this time, it is not easy to buy cement. In order to get cement in some hardware we have to go through a list and get the cement accordingly. So I had to add my name to such a list and pay the due date and get the cement.

This time I bought 20 bags of cement for one bag of cement at Rs: 1450. It cost Rs: 29000 for 20 bags of cement. If the control price had not been removed I would have bought 29 bags of cement with that money. But the situation in the country has now completely changed. So now all we have left is to get used to this lifestyle. Now is the time to work hard to increase our revenue relative to the rising prices of goods and services.
