David won against Goliath in both Spain and France - Congratulations to Lille and Atletico Madrid!

This has been an utterly exciting weekend for football lovers, and we have so many amazing days and weekends to look forward to if we are football fans! We have an amazing Europe League final to look forward to between Manchester United and Villarreal, followed by an even more interesting Champions League final between Chelsea and Manchester City. Then we will have a little break for two weeks before the European Championship will start with an opening match between Turkey and Italy, followed by lots of interesting matches. And one should not forget about Copa America either in which Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, and other fantastic countries will compete!

But, before we get there, let us spend a few minutes just being happy about this weekend!

Congratulations to Lille and Atletico Madrid!

I have some favorite teams in the different countries in Europe, but no matter which team I cheer for, I always find it refreshing and interesting when the teams without as much money as the others decide to compete in the top of a league.

If that club even manages to win in the end, just like Leicester won the Premier League some years ago, it is even cooler. And that is why I was really cheering for Atletico Madrid in their match against Real Valladolid on Saturday, knowing that if Atletico Madrid won their match, they would for sure win La Liga this year. Of course, Atletico Madrid isn't a tiny club, but compared to Real Madrid and Barcelona, it is still a small club. So yes, I was really happy when they won and were able to lift up the La Liga trophy for the 2020/21 season.

And then yesterday, we had a very similar situation in Ligue 1 in France. Lille was in the lead, a few points in front of PSG. In other words, if they won their match, they would get the title. Guess who was happy to see that Lille won their match, meaning that Tuchel and his guys in PSG didn't win the French title once again? You are right... I was!

It is great for football, and it is also a punch in the face to those who planned the Super League in only a couple of select clubs would be secure a spot!

Atalanta in Italy is also an example of such a fantastic club that year after year plays very well, even though they don't have a budget even close to the budget of clubs like Juventus, Inter, and the other Italian top clubs.

Where does this leave us?

Football remains an interesting sport. Money can buy you great players, but great players with extreme wages don't necessarily secure you the top position in the local league. We have seen it in France and in Spain this season, and I would also say that we have in part seen it in Italy (in which Juventus barely managed to get a spot among the best teams).

That is what makes this the best sport on earth... and that is why I look very much forward to see what the European Championship in football has in store for us, and also what Copa America and the other football tournaments have in store for us this summer!

I have a feeling we have a couple more surprises in store for in the next few games.

Most of these clubs that are shining right now were viewed as somewhat underdogs at the start of the games. I agree, Atalanta had a great fight finishing on top of serie A giants like Juventus who I think got lucky for qualifying for UCL next season.

I am looking forward to tonight's UEL final as well as UCL final on Saturday. They are bound to be great.

They are absolutely going to be great. I already look very much forward to tonight's final. Personally, I hope for some Manchester United magic and a 3-0 win after goals by Fernandes, Cavani, and Pogba. But, Villarreal might be a tougher opponent than expected, but I do believe Mancehster will win it tonight.

When it comes to the Champions League final I don't really care. To me, the real final was the two quarter finals between PSG and Bayern Munchen - they were just awesome matches, real magic. But, based on the squads and so, I would keep Manchester City as favorites to win the Champions League final!

You forgot to mention about Serie A
