It looks like Claudio Gentile was a hard rock at the backline of the Italian defensive side.
It's great to know they were able to win the 1982 world cup which was great for Italy.
A defender's job is to mark out the opposition's attacking side and stop them from getting to their 18 yard box. It seems Gentile did a great job with that and went ahead to score when necessary.

Thank you vey much for your comment! What was exactly what I wanted to point out with my post, of course scoring goals is necessary in order to win but defense is also very important and let's not forget that Italy introduced the catenaccio, a system very hard to break especially when you have good quality defenders, which Italy always had.
