What leads people to believe things without any evidence? No. Wait. That's not a good question at all, because we all do that; all of us believe loads of things without evidence or the need to search for evidence. A better question may be: "what leads people to believe outrageous things that are so far removed from what's deemed acceptable, that they knowingly run the risk of being accused of wearing a tin-foil hat?"

Trump held a press conference yesterday in which he complained about Pfizer and others sitting on the news that they'd developed a working vaccine against covid-19 until after the 3 November elections; this is yet another in a long series of laments about the election he lost, and a new accusation about a conspiracy against him. He implies that Pfizer did this on purpose, that had they made the news public ahead of the election, the outcome could have been different. He also boasted (again) that without his efforts the world would have to wait for the vaccine much longer, years even. Only Trump could have pulled this of, according to Trump... What struck me immediately after hearing this, is the irony of Trump boasting about a vaccine, when his supporter-base is full of anti-vaxxers, people who are against vaccinations for a number of reasons, ranging from deeply religious people who say vaccines mess up God's plan to people who just don't trust anything coming from the government, especially when it's mandatory.

Let me say this: I believe it's good and healthy to be suspicious, to be skeptical of anything coming from so called authorities. I still believe that the official account of what happened on 11 September 2001 is a lie, and that is the biggest crime committed in my lifetime. It's a disgrace that we still don't know what actually happened that day, especially because of the aftermath where governments all over the world infringed on our freedoms and illegal wars were started. Approximately 3000 innocent people died that day, and millions of innocent people died because of it; hence my qualification of biggest crime of my lifetime. But the way Trump handled the pandemic, or the way he didn't handle it, is in the top 5 of crimes during my life for sure. He knows his supporters hang on his every word, so when he says that this virus is just like the regular flew, when he suggests that injecting disinfectants or that face-masks don't help, he actively helps spread the virus.

I've said this before: it's no wonder that so many of Trump's supporters are so easily swayed to believe anything he says, as they already are believers without evidence. Many of them believe in the wild QAnon conspiracy theory; we've seen them wearing "Q" shirts and waving "Q" flags during Trump's many rallies. The QAnon theory claims that the world is secretly governed by a satanic group of pedophiles who back the Democrats and Joe Biden, and that Donald Trump is the messianic figure that will stop them and Make America Great Again... If you can believe that, surely you'll believe that Biden stole the election from The Orange Messiah with help of a world-wide conspiracy consisting of Venezuela, Cuba, China, Soros, Antifa and BLM. So... How come people reach this point in their life where they deeply believe all this nonsense? For a possible answer to this question I invite you all to watch this immensely interesting video called "In Search Of A Flat Earth". It's more than an hour long, but it takes us from believing in Flat Earth theory, believe in the geocentric model, via QAnon to Trump and his supporters. What I like about, is that it tries to explain how we're all susceptible to this phenomenon, or at least all of us who start with a healthy distrust authorities like politics, politicians and oligarchs. It also explains how this healthy distrust of authorities slowly transforms into a belief in, and a cry for an authoritarian like Donald Trump:

"If you want to cut through the noise it's this: the unifying theme is a desire for a sort of restorative authoritarianism, for a strong man to come in and forcibly put everything back where it belongs. Everything else is aesthetic."

I don't know if the video's publishing-date of 11 September is a coincidence, but it's fitting regardless. I'll leave you with one of the top comments in the video, one I agree with wholeheartedly:

"So trusting the facts and experts living their life in the open (aka the system) makes us sheep, but "trust the plan" of an anonymous account that could literally be anyone while ignoring anything that might not pan out is somehow not sheep-like?"
