Greetings fellow Teachers, Students and Parents!,

You are all welcome to this lesson on how to plan 70mins lesson for "Change of State of Matter in BS 7 Science."

Day: Tuesday

Duration: 70min

Date: 19/05/2020

Time: 9:10-10:20am

Teaching Learning Materials: water, coal pot, charcoal, silver, ice block, Shea butter, naphthalene ball. Chalkboard.

Relevant Previous knowledge (RPK): Pupils have been introduced to the state of Matter.

Introduction/ Review of the RPK: Ask pupils to come out with the 3 states of Matter. The expected answers are: solid, liquid and gas. Further ask pupils to give at least one example of solid, liquid and gas to clarify their knowledge of understanding. Example of solid is stone, liquid is water and gas is air.

Objectives: By the end of the lesson, a pupil will be able to mention at least one of the following changes that will occur when the various activities take place:

i.Heating of Shea butter on hot fire to become liquid.

ii.Boiling of water for 30mins

iii.putting water in a container in deep freezer for 1 hour.

iv. Inserting naphthalene ball in trunk for one month.

Corresponding activities to each objective:

a. Activity 1: using the Shea butter, coal pot and the pot, guide pupils to heat the Shea butter for about 5mins. Let pupils observe and tell what happens.

b. Assist pupils to boil the cold water for 30mins Let pupils submit what they saw.

C. Ask pupils to mention what happened for the ice block to become how it.

d. Lead pupils to come out with the reason why naphthalene ball shrink in size when they are put in their trunk.

Corresponding content to each specific objectives:

i.When she's butter is heated, it changes from solid to liquid through the process known as "Melting."

ii. When water is boiled for 30mins, it state change from liquid to vapour, through the process known as "Evaporation."

iii. When water is allowed in deep freezer for 1 hour, it changes from liquid to solid state through the process known as "Freezing."

iv.naphthalene ball always by pass from solid state to gaseous state, through the process known as Sublimation."*

Application: Ask pupils to explain why some droplet of water is left in the lid of their cooking pot? Expected answer: this is because the liquid boils and turn to vapour which is gas. In that case they form around the lid and when it cools it turns into water again.

Evaluation: Ask pupils to mention any 3 changes of state of matter they have learnt.
