Arthritis danger to physical wellbeing

Good morning Great Steemians, Yesterday as I was rushing to ward I got attracted a very serious shout from a patient who was in serious pain and I then saw two consultant discussing a patient case , I have to pause to learn they were saying about the patient. From what I learnt I discovered the patient is having "Arthritis" . She didn't treat the arthritis when the issue , she was taking pain relieve medicine which was relieving only pain without tackling the root cause of the problem now her ankle joint and Knee joint have stiffen because of lack of proper treatment and this lead the question on what is "Arthritis"

What is arthritis?

Arthritis is a disease condition where their is inflammation or wear and tear at the joint of that affects your joints which can cause pain. Arthritis is mostly seen in joint like:

  • Ankle Joint.
  • Knee Joint etc.

Types of Arthritis

Osteoarthritis

It is the wear and tear joint cartilage which happen as a result of repeated stress. It’s the most common form type of arthritis seen in elderly patient.

Ankylosing spondylitis :

it is the arthritis of the spine or lower back.

Juvenile arthritis (JA),

it is the arthritis of young children where the immune system attacks joints tissues. it affects children from 16year below.

Gout:

it is a disease condition where their is formation of uric acid joints .

Rheumatoid arthritis:

This a disease condition where the immune system attack synovial membranes of the joints.

Clinical Presentation of Arthritis

  • Pain
  • Swelling, redness and warmth in a joint
  • Difficulty moving a joint
  • Stiffness or reduced movement of a joint
  • Tenderness.
  • Warmth
  • Fatigue
  • Scaly, itchy skin
  • Hair loss in spots

Causes of arthritis?

  • Family history
  • Repeated stress on joints.
  • Autoimmune diseases or infections.

Management of arthritis ?

  • Medication: The use of Anti-inflammatory may help relieve your arthritis symptoms.
  • Physical therapy: Physiotherapist can help improve range of motion and mobility. and also teach you how to adjust activities to reduce arthritic pain.

How to reduce the chances of arthritis ?

  • Avoiding tobacco products.
  • Always engage in non-weight bearing exercise.
  • Maintaining a good body weight.

In summary prevention is better than cure and when discover the signs and symptom consult you doctors.
