This condition occurs when the melanocylen which is the cell responsible for producing the pigment that give skin it's colour knoen as melanin are destroyed by the body immune system. Vitiligo usually begines with some white patches then gradually spread over the body with time. It sometimes begins from the hands, feet's and faces. There are six types of vitiligo which are Generalized vitiligo, segemental vitiligo, focal vitiligo, Trichome vitiligo and universal vitiligo.

This condition affects about 1% of the world population and affect all gender and races. Vitiligo is not a hereditary condition but research has it stated that about 35% of people affected with vitiligo have a close relative who is also affected with vitiligo. Individuals infected with vitiligo are at a higher risk of getting other autoimmune diseases such as diabetes, anemia, Addison diseases and hypothyroidism. Also people with autoimmune diseases such as those listed above are at higher risks of experiencing vitiligo.

CONCLUSION

The attack of the immune system on the skin can lead to loss of the melanin pigment. They loss if this pigment leads to vitiligo. This states the important of this pigment as it gives the skin its colour. Individuals who experience albinisim also suffers from the total loss of the malanin in their skin pigment.
