TikTok fires entire staff in India 3 years after it was banned in the country, 40 employees lose jobs

TikTok, which had the second largest user base in India, was banned in 2020 over national security reasons along with other Chinese apps.
Almost three years after TikTok was banned in India, the Bytedance-owned social media app has wiped out entire staff in the country. TikTok, which had the second largest user base in India, was banned in 2020 over national security reasons. Although the company lost market share in India, it still had an office in India. The TikTok employees who worked out of the India office, worked mostly for the Brazil and Dubai markets. Bytedance did try to reason it out with the Indian government but could not find a way back to the Indian markets. The app’s fate is hanging by a thread in the United States too.

Update: In a statement, the TikTok spokesperson said, "We have taken the decision to close our India remote sales support hub, which was put in place at the end of 2020 to provide support to our global and regional sales teams. We greatly appreciate these employees and their impact on our company, and will ensure they are supported at this difficult time."
