Today, I would like to share with you about a topic that has raised alot of arguments in the education system in Ghana.

Should corporal punishment be reintroduced in the pre-tertiary level in Ghana?

This question has become a controversy around the teaching environment. I would like to take you through some of these arguments that people have on whether or not the introduction of corporal punishment at the pre-tertiary level. I would like to take you through some keywords in the topic, so that readers can understand the topic clearly. According to the Macmillan School Dictionary for Advanced Learners International Student Edition defines corporal punishment as

That which consist of hitting someone.

Reintroduced means bring back something such as law, system, or benefit that had been stopped.
Ghana Education Service Curriculum sees
Pre-tertiary level to begin from kindergarten to the SHS level.

It is very important to note that those who believe in the introduction of corporal punishment have their argument whereas those whose who refute this have their side. In this post, I would juxtapose the points for readers to understand the various views of the proponents.

Corporal punishment is the best way to control the school environment, and it's atmosphere. It is undeniable that the genesis of the growing bandits, miscreants, recalcitrancy and absenteeism in schools is as a result of the ban that has been placed on corporal punishment. The question is, how do you deal with a persistent drug addict who multiples his or her canopies to persuade others to this act after series of counselling? Will you pamper such behaviour with soothing and sugar coated words which can destroy the very good ones? The issue of corporal punishment should be made effective only when the individual implementing it use the right approach.

On the other hand, the other proponents also argue that teachers who always would like to enforce this act do not have any proper training. Teachers must have other means to take care of behaviours of students aside the canning and other ways of inflicting pain for this will prove the training they had.

Without corporal punishment, students are likely to go very wild. These days, the impact of the social media on the students are getting precarious. Students copy acts on social media wrongly without considering its consequences. In 2021 Wassce examination, students were at behaviours that insulted the president of the country. The question is, what effrontery will a student have to insult a president who gives free education to these I or her. Should we pamper them? Inflicting pains on this individuals will serve as a deterrent to the others who copy same from this act. Corporal Punishment instills respect into students.

Others also argue that, the corporal punishment doesn't change behaviour, but it rather affects the students psychologically and also impacts fear in them. It is not a good practice that teachers who teach students put fear in them, but they must rather go close to them in order to know their worries and help them in solving them.

Corporal punishment keeps students under control, and helps them to take their studies seriously. Teachers in the classroom always love to use the cane, because they believe that it is the only language students understand. Students are up to task whenever they see the cane and their performances are at its best. How do you curb the worse of Students terror! A little pain at the buttocks is the best way to sit students down.

Others also argue that, inflicting pain on the victim is morally outrageous. It put bruises on the student and may put the teacher in trouble. There are many teachers on the field who apply their anger on students for the trivial of offence and they do end up causing injuries.

When corporal punishment is administered, students are up and discipline. Over the years, corporal punishment in schools have helped the training of students and they come out as dutiful individuals to help the nation. As compared to when it was banned. crime rate has increased in the country which has become a problem for the security agencies. They believe that bad behaviours filter into life after school.

On the other hand, proponents who are in contrast with this argument say that, countries such as USA, Canada, English and other European countries are doing well economically and are producing good students than the countries who are applying such punishment. The problem here is that, we must make the right choices to curb the situation.

Corporal punishment has its side effects and its positives with others arguing that humans are not animals to be beating. These arguments sound intriguing, but they are what can hold the system to make it strong.

To conclude, what do you personally think about corporal punishment and how is the condition in your country? Share with us.

Thank you for your time.

Personally I will definitely like the reintroduced of corporal punishment. This is not because I not to be punished but because this will help to strengthen and correct our children now at these. Even the Bible made it clear that rod should not be there for children to go against rules.

It is also true that humans are not animals to be beaten but if a human is acting like animal you have to treat him or her like one in other to take him or her from that side.
Greetings and Better days ahead.
