Great Acehnese People
With the diversity of tribes and cultures in Aceh, of course the nature and character of Acehnese people will be different.
To get to know the character of the Acehnese people, you should pay attention to the 5 characters of the Acehnese people in general. As reviewed by Doctor Muhammad Harun. Mpd, in his book "Understanding Acehnese People."
Militant
Having a high fighting spirit, not only in fighting for the meaning of life, but also in maintaining self-esteem for its essence.
Acehnese militancy is militancy in the sense of maintaining the truth that is believed in by its people.
Reactive
Having an attitude of vigilance over self-esteem whose existence is at stake in the socio-cultural constellation.
Acehnese people are very sensitive to the social situation around them. Acehnese people do not like to be disturbed, because if they are offended and are embarrassed, the reaction that arises will be hated and even cause revenge. Until the Dutch during the colonial war labeled Acehnese people as "Aceh Pungoe" aka crazy Acehnese.
Consistent
This is evident in attitudes and positions that are not fickle, firm and obedient, especially when it comes to self-esteem and truth. As a representation of this nature is revealed in the Acehnese idiom "Meunyoe ka bak u, han mungken bak pineung. Which means, if it's a coconut tree, it can't be a betel nut tree.
The consistency of the Acehnese people can be seen in their patriotism against the colonizers, since the era of the kingdom, war, colonialism, until the era of independence.
Optimistic
It can be seen in doing a certain job. The Acehnese people think that every job that seems difficult and tough, must be tried and gone through.
The longest war against the Dutch colonizers, was fought until the Dutch really had to leave Aceh. Even though they were faced with sophisticated war machines. The Acehnese people remain optimistic with the capital militancy.
Loyal
This is very much related to trust. If someone, especially a leader, respects, trusts, does not deceive, does not suspect the Acehnese, they will prove themselves completely to the leader.
Although not all hadih maja (advice) in "Understanding the Acehnese," can be applied literally in all eras, the historical values in it still describe the typology of Acehnese society as a whole.
The philosophy carried by hadih maja is still visible in Acehnese society to this day. Understand the character of the Acehnese people, then you will become a friend, even a brother of the Acehnese people.
Greetings always compact.
