There is a school of thoughts within the skincare community that believes that anything that cannot be consumed as a food item should not be used on your skin. They say, the skin is the largest organ in our body (which is true) and it does absorb nutrients and nourishes the body in its own way.

The ancient Indian ayurvedic practice uses herb infused oils to massage its patients as a form of therapy. The herbs used varies depending on the type treatment rendered. Although initially Ayurveda practice was limited to the Indian subcontinent, it is now widely practiced throughout the world.

Modern scientifically formulated skincare products combine both edible and non-edible products in its ingredients list. These are supposedly science based and the combination of the ingredients keeps evolving as new discoveries are made.

What do you think of the idea that only items consumable as food should be used on our skin?

The edibles can't be least wrong as material of skin enhancement , unlike other inorganic non edibles which could be poisonous to the skin !

In other words , edible organic substances are the best for skin maintenance and rejuvenation . Nevertheless, some inorganic non food materials could be equally good for skin maintenance!
