The children must need the guidance of their parents at childhood. That strictness is actually the teaching and guidance of the parents. It's the duty of the parents to strictly prohibited and stop their kids if being involving in bad activities.
Your dad always supported you in the cycle of your life. You said the demands from you were just moderate and not that much burden or pressure on you.
