¿WHAT DOES MERCY MEAN?

in HeartChurch3 years ago

Mercy is the willingness to sympathize with the sufferings and miseries of others. It manifests itself in kindness, assistance to the needy, especially in forgiveness and reconciliation. It is more than a feeling of sympathy, it is a practice. In Christianity it is one of the main divine attributes.

This parable that I present below is a parable narrated by Jesus himself to exemplify that mercy is a great virtue and those who come to practice it will be free men and women, firm and full of piety.

Luke 10, 25-37
A teacher of the Law, who wanted to put him to the test, got up and said to him: "Teacher, what must I do to get eternal life?" Jesus said to him, “What is written in the Scripture? What do you read in it? The man replied: «You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength and with all your mind; and you will love your neighbor as yourself ». Jesus said to him: “Excellent answer! Do that and you will live. The other, who wanted to justify his question, replied: "And who is my neighbor?" Jesus began to say: “A man was going down the road from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell into the hands of some bandits, who even stripped him of his clothes, beat him and left him, leaving him half dead. By chance a priest was coming down that road; he saw it, took the other side and went on. So did a Levite who came to that place: he saw it, took the other side and passed by. A Samaritan also passed by that road and saw it; but he felt sorry for him. He approached, healed his wounds with oil and came and bandaged them ... Jesus then asked him: "In your opinion, which of these three was the neighbor of the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?"

Many people approached Jesus with the intention of finding an error in him or to put him to the test because they knew everything that the law said although they did not comply with it and one of the questions that they always asked Jesus to tempt him was this_ what should I to do to get eternal life? » But he had the correct answer for everyone because he was perfect and just God and he asked him what the scripture says about that and the teacher of the law quickly responded because everything that was written in the law was known but another to justify the law. answer that Jesus gives the question: "And who is my neighbor?" Jesus began to explain why he wanted them to truly know what it was to show mercy to their neighbor.

In addition to this, Jesus in this parable exemplifies the tools to demonstrate the love of God in the neighbor because here Jesus presents devotion as something of the heart something that is born in the soul and is demonstrated with action through mercy which will bring us closer to the father's heart

Every time you do mercy to someone you are acting like this Good Samaritan because loving and being compassionate is a virtue given by God that is born in the heart of man through transformation and the genuine relationship that you have with God every day.
Mercy and the love of God is not a theoretical issue but a practical virtue they are not words they are actions that people practice with their neighbor to demonstrate the love of God on earth
