English Version

"The fruits of the Spirit are perfections that the Holy Spirit forms in us as the first fruits of eternal glory. The tradition of the Church lists twelve:“ charity, joy, peace, patience, long-suffering, goodness, kindness, meekness, faithfulness, modesty. , continence, chastity (Galatians 5, 22-23) ”. (Catechism 1832)

In this series we will reflect on the fruits of the Spirit, the meaning and importance of each one of them within the Christian life.

Fruits of the Holy Spirit

Modesty

In the DRAE dictionary, "modesty" is defined as "virtue that moderates, tempers and regulates external actions, containing man within the limits of his state, according to what is convenient for him." The Spirit-filled believer will manifest visible signs of such grace; one of these signs is modesty. A modest person is not presumptuous, arrogant, or exhibitionist, on the contrary, he is characterized by being humble in treatment, respectful in speaking and modest in dressing. The modest does not brag; he prefers discretion and kindness ... the modest is not unseemly or vulgar; prefers decency and honesty ... the modest does not make his body an occasion of sin for others; he prefers to inspire good and be a worthy dwelling place for the Spirit of God.

May the Spirit of Truth give us the clarity to understand that modesty is not a sign of weakness but a sign of virtue and greatness of spirit.
