Lessons from Jonah: RESIST THE DEVIL

in HeartChurch4 years ago

KJV:Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?

6 KJV:But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

7 KJV:Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

8 KJV:Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. (James 4:5-8)

Apart from prayer, meditation and singing; there are situations that needs your outright rejection of the enticement from Satan-by directly speaking to the person or situation loudly and boldly too.

Saying "No"!! Or Get thee behind me Satan!" Jesus resisted the devil during his time on earth and through experience and a divine mandate assured us that if we resist the devil, he will flee from us. So why do you pray act as if the devil is ever omnipotent, much stronger than God and is capable of sinking you!!

However, it is important to remember that the devil is not afraid of us as individuals but of the spirit of God that indwells us. That is why our James text puts our submission to God first, before our being able to resist the devil.

Examples of how we can submit to God in very specific ways are listed out in our Thessalonians reading. Are you fully submitted to God?

If you are, it would reflect very powerful in your home, church, workplace and above all, the kingdom of the devil.
Re-examine and judge yourself.

Lord help us all. Amen
