Today I will be discussing on they comparism between centralized and decentralized applications under the category of social media. Please follow me as we journey through these together.

With these in mind, let's first and foremost discuss what both centralized and decentralized applications are all about.

Centralized application is a software applications that does not run on a distributed network, it's hosted on a centralized server. Whereas, a decentralized applications other wise known as Dapp is a software applications that does its operations on a distributed network. It's important to mention here that it is not hosted on the centralized server rather it uses the peer-to-peer decentralized network.

In these category, I will be comparing Facebook Vs Steemit, explaining their merits and demerits

Facebook

First and foremost, let's look at Facebook. Facebook is a centralized application i.e as a social media platform, it falls under the category of centralized. Facebook by means of definition is a social media platform that allow it users to chat share pictures and many other things.

Merit of Facebook

1. Means of advert:- Facebook has the ability to help it's members advertise their various products by posting it.
2. User friendly:- Facebook allows it users to access it with ease.
3. Flexibility:- Facebook as a centralized application can be updated without it affecting the user view. These is referred to as database schema.

DEMERIT of Facebook

1. Your data is not completely safe as there is another person some where who has control over your account.
2. It is prompt to hacking since it's not controlled by just one person.
3. The probability of getting ban at any point in time is high since you have little control over your account.

Steemit

Steemit is also a social media platform though a decentralized one that rewards it users for using the platform. Unlike Facebook, steemit encourages it users by rewarding them using crypto currency i.e steem.

Merit of Steemit

1. Scalability:- steemit is open to carry out a whole lots of functions without limitation.
2. Speed:- the speed of Steemit as a platform is very fast.
3. Security:- Steemit is very secured and that is the reason why after generating your keys in your achievement two you will be asked on how you can keep it safe.

DEMERIT of Steemit

1. Difficult to understand:- unlike Facebook, steemit is very difficult to understand how they system works, as a matter of fact, you need to be schooled to understand how steemit works.
2. Absence of regulation:- since the platform is not a centralized application, it is difficult to regulate and hence many cyber crime can take place in it.

Conclusion

It's no doubt that in the nearest future we will all be moving into decentralized applications, the reason is not very far fetched. Decentralized applications have more advantages than its disadvantages. Decentralized applications are fast, reliable, secure and many other qualities. Hence I believe that in future to come, we will all be into decentralized applications.
