Hello everyone, it’s another week of the crypto academy and in this week’s lecture of professor @yohan2on he talked about Blockchain video Games. I must say, he really did a good job explaining the whole concept and I will now attempt the assignment that was given, which is all about Blockchain cuties universe.
Introduction:
Since the emergence of video games, they have long before attracted the attention of many individuals around the world and they were usually built on centralized systems. This way earning from these video games was a bit hard since there wasn’t any form of tokens acquired in the game and the best possible way to earn was to stream your game on a third-party system such as YouTube. Even with that, you could earn enough as you would have expected.
But since the invention of Blockchain-based video games, there was a way adopted to reward uses for their usage of the game and that is the introduction of NFTs into the games. With that, uses play to earn these various tokens and can be traded to their local currencies and this has also gone a long way to catch more interest from many individuals since you can be able to earn something from just sitting at your comfort and playing a game.
What is Blockchain cuties universe
This is a blockchain-based video game that rewards users with tradable tokens in the form of “cuties”. These cuties are in the form of small beautiful animals like pets and users are supposed to breed/grow them to become more powerful. This means that you either buy a cutie or sell a cutie and the scarcity of a particular cutie makes it more expensive too.
Blockchain cuties universe is among the first founded blockchain-based video games which was launched in April 2018 and since then it has been growing more and more. The cuties in the video game come in the form of cats, puppies, and many other small animals. The token for the platform is BCUG(Blockchain Cuties Universe Governance).
It is also listed on five(5) different blockchains and these are; EOS, Matic, Tron, Ethereum, and Neo.

There are a lot of features that you can explore after signing up. Below are the features I have explored.

My Cuties
This section shows the different characteristics of each cutie you own. As you can see in my screenshot, I have just one pet at the moment.
You can see in the above image the only pet I have acquired in the game and in that picture, you can also find the unique characteristics it possesses. With time, I can be able to develop my pet into a very strong and rare one and hence making it more rare and expensive too. All I have to do is acquire special items from adventures and merge special traits, color, abilities, and appearance to my pet which will increase its market value.
Forge
In this section, you can find several ways of improving your pet’s chances of winning a tournament by adding special tools/gears to your pet. You can add Enchantable items to the pet to make it more powerful, recycle unused tools of your pet, and you can also merge other gears to create a single tool for your pet too. Doing all this adds more strength to your pet and increases its chances of winning tournaments. And you have to do is acquire these gears from games you’ve played, with this also your pet can become more valuable in the market.
Adventures
This section is where the game occurs, each user sends his/her pet on an adventure and one is claimed the winner. There’s no actual gameplay that is shown here. The cuties just go battle it out and at the end, one is announced the winner. Users will get a report after each adventure is finished and that is where you find out if you won or not. You can always check at the notifications center to find the report of your cutie.
The report will show you the number of rounds the cuties battle and also the location the fight happened, the scores are then accumulated at the end of the report and the winner is announced.

BCUG
This section is where you can perform trades on the BCUG token, you can buy these tokens on the platform using an external wallet such as MetaMask. Also, in this section, you can perform staking of your tokens and unstake them anytime you wish to.
Tournaments
This category is almost the same thing as the adventure section, but with this place, you can only participate if you meet certain requirements. The one difference it has is that you get to play with multiple uses and it is just like a group battle between multiple cuties on the platform. You can also earn some rewards from this place and at the moment there are only rewards in TRX.
Market Place
In this section, several cuties are showcased for other users to purchase especially new users. You can filter to get your preferred type of cuties and the kind of abilities you want of a cutie.
You can build up and improve your cutie and after that, you can put it up for sale over here. You can pay for cuties with cryptocurrencies based on the blockchain the cutie was built.
Currently, there is a total of 7707 cuties in the market and this value may change due to sales done in the market.
Special Sales
This section reveals special cuties that have developed very well with special abilities in battle and they also come with a higher price than the cuties found in the marketplace. This means that the cuties in this section are much rarer and can only be obtained at a higher price, these cuties can be bought with BCUG. Also, these special cuties are sometimes awarded to top-performing users on the platform as a gift for their performance.
The cutie in the above image is called BLOODSHED and it goes for a price of 1137.00 BCUG
Leaderboards
This section displays statistics of players from the game, it shows a different kinds of data collected from the game. You can find data like; Top BCUG holders, Top sellers, Top liked Per owners, Top Achievers, and many other statistics data you wish to know.
Achievements
This section displays your achievements that have been passed or are yet to be completed. There are some tasks given in the game for players to achieve, and when a player successfully achieves these tasks, there are usually rewarded with items, to improve their game.
Notifications( the bell 🔔 icon)
This place shows you your recent activities in the game, such as a completed adventure and achievements that have been completed.
Review of the Game.
After playing a couple of games on the website and exploring them, I was able to pin out some of the pros and cons of the games.
Pros
One major advantage it has over other games such as the centralized games is that players can earn income from playing the game and when you get to improve your skills in the game, you’ll be able to earn more income from the game.
Another advantage of this game is that it can support up to 5 different blockchain networks. Hence it can attract and accommodate more users all over the world.
The game provides guides and a little information in almost every section you enter. This makes it very easy to use and user-friendly.
Lastly, players can also use this platform to earn some extra income by staking their BCUG tokens.
Cons
It can be noticed in the “special sales” section that the cuties are very costly, and with that players would need to invest more into the game to acquire these cuties to win adventures. This makes the platform a bit more expensive to use.
The absence of real gameplay makes the platform less attractive to users and this also makes it less popular to attract other individuals. There’s a lack of players actually getting themselves involved in the battle of their cuties and hence each battle is determined based on the strength of the cuties, meaning if you have a less strong cutie, you’ll lose the game.
There presents of the cooldown feature makes it less attractive and this is because, after each adventure, the cutie has to cool down for some time. This prevents players from playing subsequent games.
My rating of the game.
From weighing the advantages over the disadvantages, I would give it 4/5.
My reason is that the general design of the website makes it very easy to use. Also, the presence of guides and instructions makes it very user-friendly. And with the rewards one could obtain from playing the game, it gives users more encouragement to get themselves involved in the games. Another reason I like the game is that it does take long for an adventure to be completed.
In general, I think the game is a good one and it just needs more attention and also needs to be advertised more to include more users in the game.
Conclusion
These blockchain video games are a very important strategy to improve blockchain technology and with the emergence of more blockchain games, more users will be tempted to enter this type of network. With a lot of rewards that can be earned from playing video games, many individuals will be attracted to this blockchain network.
Finally, I think with this lecture, the professor has done an excellent job on the topic, and some of us have learned something new from the lesson. I’ll use this to study more into blockchain-based video games.
