The movie 'You should have left' can be watched on netflix. Kevin Bacon and Amanda Seyfried starred in this movie. The movie is produced by 'Blumhouse'.

The genre of the movie is mystery.

Although I do not like mystery genre movies, I watched this movie because I like Amanda Seyfried.

  • What does the house stand for?

I think this is the only question that remains after the movie ends.
What is this house? What does it stand for?
Long story short, in my opinion, the house stands for 'guilt' or 'sin'.

There are some strange traits of the house.

  1. The house is bigger on the inside.
  2. The house does not keep the same angle and the angle is not 90 degrees.
  3. The structure of the house keeps changing.
  4. Time in this house flows non-linearly.
  5. No one can help ones inside house come out. Only ones inside themselves should come out.
  6. Some leave and some stay in the house. Sometimes, the house finds people.

Mind(guilt) can get bigger than body, mind has no constant structure and angle, and time inside mind flows non-linearly.(Mind can regret things of past and fear future even when the body stays in present.). Also, some stay in guilt but some leave and forget guilt.

  • Right and Left

I think the movie hides the metaphor of 'right and left' in it.
First of all, the title of the movie is 'You should have left'. Although it is not the 'left' left but one of the forms of the verb 'leave', they are written and pronounced the same.

The background of the movie is Wales. Wales is the country where cars move in a left sided ways. (Wales is an unexpected background considering that it is an American movie so, I guess the background also has a hidden intention.)

One of the important scenes in this movie is the scene where Theo checks that the house does not show the right angle which is 90 degrees.

Water fallen on a floor of this house gets split right and left, not stay in one spot.

The last line also consists of the word right. The line goes 'People have always stayed in that house. Some dont leave. The right ones usually find the place. Or maybe it's the other way round. The place finds them.'

In conclusion the movie encourages the guilty ones to make the right choice, which is to live in their guilt.
