Small Treasure Found in Bag of Coins on Ebay
I was perusing the coin lots on Ebay and came across a bag of mixed world coins. Looking closely at the photos I could see there was at least a few silver coins and what looked like an old Australian trading token. I took the risk and purchased the lot for A$17. It turned out to have A$22 worth of silver so I was ahead straight away. Better yet, the old token turned out to be an 1863 halfpenny copper token for T. F. Merry & Co. in Toowoomba, Queensland. These seem to sell for $100 to $250 or more. (Probably the lower end for this one).

1863 T. F. Merry & Co. Halfpenny Token
In Australia, during the 19th century, traders often had there own tokens made due to a shortage in coinage. Merry's tokens were struck by W.J. Taylor of London.
The next photo show the coin lot as purchased on Ebay.
Contents of the coin lot. Can you spot the good one?
Below is an old 1863 advertisement for T. F. Merry & Co.
