Smelter ruins
The Quincy Smelter, in the Keweenaw Peninsula of Upper Michigan is the only existing early 20th century copper smelter in the country. Built in 1898, the smelter used heat to turn ore into ingots, which were then used to make copper wire and tubing.
A few photos on a rainy day of the old buildings, a locomotive, and the tailings piles...fascinating place that is being restored to be safe enough for tours.

The overcast day gives these empty buildings a sense of desolation, especially the first one. Great images!!
