Getting To Know Uganda:Uganda's First President, Kabaka Edward Mutesa II(1963-1966) Biography and More Details

This marks a series of posts i will be making about Uganda's presidents from the time we achieved Independence as a nation.

In this article today i will give exhaustive information about Uganda's first President.
Uganda received Independence in from the British on 09/10/1962,we just celebrated 55 years as an independent nation.
As mentioned we were under the British Protectorate.
Uganda held its first election after Independence.
The first election occurred in the next year 1963 and a new leader and President was elected as i will give you his details below.
Uganda's First President
Uganda's first post-election president was President Sir Edward Luwangula Walugembe Muteesa II.

President Sir Edward Luwangula Walugembe Muteesa II was also a Kabaka(King) of Buganda Kingdom.
He was the thirty-fifth Kabaka of Buganda.
Here the word Kabaka means King,so he was the King of Buganda Kingdom(one of the most powerful Kingdoms in East Africa at the time and now!)
In East Africa at the time we were divided in Kingdoms and this(Buganda) Kingdom was and is still the most powerful Kingdom.
It was then logical for the King at the time to be elected as first president,because since we were just getting independent,he would easily lead the country as we look for another leader!
President Sir Edward Luwangula Walugembe Muteesa II Background.
Muteesa was born at the house of Sir Albert Cook in Makindye, Kampala, on 19 November 1924, the fifth son of Sir Daudi Chwa II, Kabaka of Buganda, who reigned between 1897 and 1939. His mother was Lady Irene Drusilla Namaganda.
His Education
He attended one of the best schools at the times(its still among the best now!) King's College Budo.
You can see the school names resonates to royalty,the name Kings College!
This is the modern day school the King went to.

History states that after the death of his father Sir Daudi Chwa II in 29/11/1939,he was transfered to the United Kingdom to complete his studies at Magdalene College Cambridge
Buganda Kabaka Reign
He was crowned the Kabaka on his 18th Birthday.
He reigned from
19 November 1942 to 21 November 1969

Presidency Reign
As i mentioned earlier he was our first post election President.
9 October 1963 – 2 March 1966
He was deposed in 1966!

In summary Uganda's first President was called Sir Edward Luwangula Walugembe Muteesa II,he was also a King at the time.
He lead the country from 1963-1966 when he was deposed off power.
