Lost Cities: Mesa Verde
Mesa Verde is a settlement that includes about 4,000 buildings, located in the southwest of the American state of Colorado, at an altitude of 600 meters above sea level. Built it in the XII century, representatives of ancient culture pueblo.
Modern experts believe that the pueblo built their homes in natural niches, which formed water that seeped through the sandstone. The dwellings were of different sizes - from "one-room" cabins to "multi-room" apartments. There were also "palaces," numbering 150 "rooms" ... The buildings were not only built, but also reconstructed during the century. However, by the end of the 13th century, the Indians left here and never returned ...
Why did this happen? One version says that the pueblo were feared by the invasion of unknown tribes. But there is no confirmation of this. The hypothesis of a natural disaster was also not confirmed - no traces of a fire, flood or earthquake were found on the territory of Mesa Verde. A more realistic version is that the overpopulation of this area led to the depletion of natural resources, and the inhabitants were forced to move to other places ...
